Greg or some one could you tell me how many hours or so I should change the light stuff Progear 21 type1? With its low viscosity you guys recomended more frequent changes but what is more frequent would you say? The reg stuff I changed about 2 times a season. Do ya figure I could go 3 weeks boating every day with this stuff? The reason is Im taking off for holidays and staying on a lake for 19 days. Ill change the gear oil before I go and want to use the type 1 if it will last that long skiing and bombing around. Other wise Ill put the type 2 in. James

I put this stuff in my lu and ran for a couple months. Changed it and a lot of metal on the drain plug!!! Unit is 5 years old and never had that before!! Drained it out and will not put any back in and I have 5 quarts leftover. My 2 cents

I have stated on here many times, Pro Power Type 2 only for day to day use!.
Type 1 for racing ONLY.

I run the 0 with a bit of the type 2 in it ........ about 75% type1 and 25% type two ............... no problem at all !!!!!

True, I was more trying to say I disagreed with the test here than to insinuate that he or anyone else should have read that. I guess I didn't make that clear.
I have run type 2 since 1997 with no issues. And did try type 1 twice...both times with issues. I am now on type 2 only. Interesting combo you have, I was going to cut my type 2 50% with type 1 and see what happens.

We ran Type 1 and beat the hell out of the boat in the process - the lower unit was torn down before and after with zero signs of wear. Now, we're not saying you should do the same, but just stating our results. Also keep in mind that our lower unit was evaluated before testing so we knew there were no known issues.

For day-to-day, I would probably use Type 2 anyway, since we tend to check it less often in that scenario.

Either way, the product did what it claimed to do for us and Herb's Intimidator 21/300X. If I were racing, Type 1 would certainly be in my case.

On another note, I'm using AliSyn spray grease to lubricate the 4-pawl rear cassette drive in my BMX race bike. It's way better than Finish Line's (bike race lubricant) lubricants. :)

I ran the 0-wt in mine a few times when I was racing, but since have changed back to the good ol' HP Mercury Lube.

Everytime I drained the 0-wt it had a metallic appearance to it. Never any chunks of metal, but looked as if it was mixed with metallic paint dust.

I've never had any issues with the Mercury and feel it's as good as anything else for the money.

Yep... James,
Mercury HP gearcase lube… You ain't racing and our gearcases need all the protection they can get!

Thanks Guys i will try the type 2 I have for a week or so. Then drain and see what I got. Ill post back hear and let you know my findings. I started useing the alyson 2 stroke oil with my oil injection for about 3 or 4 tanks of gas now. I must say that I like it a lot!! Now this could be total false because i accualy have no why to tell but my ears and eyes.:D I have {noticed} see what I mean, a inprovement in oil consuption for one. now at first that freaked me out because I was woried that my injection wasnt working fully. Not the case though. My idle is smoother with way less smoke accualy none so far were with the merc plus some times after sitting for a while with the motor tilted up would poof a little on start ups. Beter cold starts before the first start from the ramp she would take on the second turn cold but first turn key every time now. The motor just generaly seems happy right now and that makes me happy to. I know I shoud go to premix but if the injection ever fails its my eccuse to buy a 300X or XS for her:D As long as every thing works fine theres no way my wife will let me spend the money.:( I realy love the way the 225PM works on this hull dont get me wrong I pamper her but man i would would love a 300 like Greg S had on his GS!! So generaly speeking the Alyson lubricant that I have tried have been working just fine for me and cant wait to put the Type2 in a feel if theres a differance there also. Were i boat the lake is ususlly like glass and im the only one out there! No houses just me and the lake so you become one with the hull grasshopper! I notice every little change with my butt, ears, eyes and fingertips. So if theres a differance I will notice. Thats all i mean buy that. Also just wanted to rub it in a bit because down south at the lakes im sure thats not the case unless you go out at 6AM for a ripp. Good to hear from you John! Later James
