Fathom the thought.... In time, hopefully in a year ro two, I'll have a bit of $$$ to work with in acquiring a boat i intend to keep for awhile (currently selling my Checkmate Starflite:D ). More than likely I'll be buying a deck boat, such as a hurricane or tahoe, as with an unadventurous wife and two small kids, i need a bit of room and stability. I know it's not going to set the lake on fire, and i know that they prob. aren't rated for a ton of HP, but has anyone seen a 22-24' fiberglass hull'd deck boat with big power on it? Are the hulls capable of handling increased speeds? I'd be looking/hoping for something close to 60mph. Granted, that's not the point of having a deck boat, but c'mon, at least it's nice to be able to scoot once in awhile. Any thoughts appreciated!

I know a guy that is going to be tooling up a glass pontoon with a bonded glass deck, no plywood. But I think he is going to start out with a small one first and go from there. He said it will have a stepped hull and a smaller rear running surface. Time will tell.

MTX makes catamaran deck boats that are about that fast.

Check out nautic star. Their 23 runs 50 with a 225 verado. Upgrade to a 250 or 275 and you've got a 60 mph stylish deck boat.

Thanks for the replies so far! I decided that if i buy a deck boat, i'll also treat myself to an 'ignorant boat' of some sort... small with dumb power :D I did see a few open bow boats in the low-mid 20 foot range that piqued my interest recently, maybe that might work over a deck boat. We'll see!

If anything dont sell your starflight. I did that 4 years ago and am regretting it to this day. Same situation as you, I should have cut the deck open and installed front seating and such. Takes a lot of skill and some creativity but it has been done before! Now im back to a hydrostream but wishing I had the starflight with open bow and big 250-300 power.

I hear ya! The Starflite open bow was called a Starliner and it was rare, you don't see many of them. I'd rather buy a Starliner than cut up a Flite. But yeah, i love my Checkmate, but i need room too!
