5100 rpm is the sweet spot, 48 mph on gps, in good water conditions, if gas tank is full only 46 mph, or if 3 or 4 pasengers 46 mph, the prop is a 14 1/2 x 21 4 blade cyclone ss

You are WAY low on the rpms. It should be propped to turn closer to 5800.

What model Ranger is it? 1800#'s seems heavy for a 18.5' boat. My 201 Stratos is 1850# dry weight...

OK heres the deal....

the operating range of the 175 is ...4850 - 5850...now thats qwite a large window ....

but the optimum operating range recomended by BRP is 5300 - 5500..

now that four bladed CYCLONE ya done fitted is prolly better suited to a larger heavier fissin bote that wants to be kept on the plane at lower bote & engine speeds..

if ya want to pick up a few more rpm & a tad more top end its bes to start by trying a RAKER or a VIPER...say round the 19-21 p..

now with evry change of a pitch in prop ...should see ya change RPM by 150-200..

i dunno why they set the rev limits at 6250... but i can tell you that by runnin up around the 6000 mark it aint gonna prduce any mo torque than runnin round the 5600 ....but it juss gonna use more gas & oil..

so if ya set it up to run on the higher side of the optimum range on that bote ya shood see both the best gas milage & perfomance...without sacrificing hole shot..

hope this helps ..

cheers Al..

Any More Sugestions On What Prop To Go To 3 Or 4 Blade What Model

Depends on where you drive it to me. I would want a 4 blade if the water was rough, but if its not, then I would run a 3 blade viper. I don't think a raker is what you need on a heavy boat.

Dealers are funny selecting props for a ski boat. They tend to decide what max RPM to aim for and then go find a prop which turns that with an _empty_ boat and no skier. No fuel, no gear, no passengers. How often do you go out and flog your ski boat when it is empty?

To make matters worse, you pull your skiers with the motor trimmed fully down. How to make an engine labour 101 - use too tall a prop and then add a skier.

With E-TEC the general recommendation is 5500rpm to 5800rpm at WOT. So, for an empty ski boat, I would shoot for 5800 rpm at WOT or maybe a little higher if you can be trusted to limit your throttle when the boat is empty.

Then when you are pulling a skier and have a couple of passengers, your WOT RPM may be closer to 5200 to 5500rpm. Of course, you may not pull the kids that fast, but at least you are not labouring the engine.

If you were setting your boat up for serious barefooting, you would shoot for 5500rpm with your standard load (skier, passengers etc). And then control yourself with no load.

The easy answer for normal ski use is to find out what the MAX WOT rpm is and set your empty boat up to do that. Then when you have a few extra kg inside and out the back, you have some RPM spare.

Ghind...what you have stated for ski botes in general is rightly so. if it did'nt have an e-tec fitted to it..

however you may have dissregarded the initial pupose of the thread..

Ken cr250 has advised that he was looking for a prop that would give him an increase in top end performance..not to master barefoot skiing...

please take note of the RPM ranges set out in my previous post as these are the correct ranges that have been revised by Bombardier for the E-TEC product.

thank you Al....:D

Taxxivader,

given your comments on ideal RPM and his current RPM, would you agree the boat should be faster if propped to turn 5500rpm?

it may well give him a mile or two faster...all botes are different & all props will produce diferent amounts of slip depending on what type of hull they are working on..
so its is now a matter of this gentleman trying a few diferent props on his partikule bote to produce the desired results.

but with the E-TEC product there will be no advantage in propping his bote for 5800 apart from break neck holeshot..coz the E-TEC he has makes its maximum power within the optimum range stated..:D
