hey guys I got this, I'm not sure what model it is. Anyone have a clue? The motor turns over and the comp is good. My question is will a 115 inline say a 1986 fit on this mid, if not what all yrs and size will. Also will the mid fit a 115 hp 1986?

Hey SixFour

Looks like a 1964 85 or 100 hp Merc. Could be a combination of parts, as the wrap around cowl looks a little like a 62 or 63. A lot of the early 60's Mercs that were white ended up painted black by the owners. The mid won't fit later models. The bolt pattern on the powerhead was changed in 1972. Also in these early Mercs a 15" shaft was considered standard. So it's a standard production model. Good Luck

will the lower unit fit a late model 115?

will the lower unit fit a late model 115?

NO, because the only year Merc ever made a shortshaft 115 was in '72. So UNLESS you've run across a '72 model 1150 (very rare) the driveshaft will be the wrong length.

okay what about this exchange, the 1st and 2nd pic is a 115 with 15in mid with onboard trim and a adaptor for a 20inch lower not sure what model, the
3rd is a 1986 115 with trim on the motor, I know that want matter. Question is will this powerhead from the 1986 fit on the older one with the 15in? If it will My next question is what would the shaft lenght need to be cut to on the 20in mid? I got a shop that can re-spline one.

Not real sure what the question is

The powerheads from the last 2 will swap with each other, but not the 85 at the top of the thread. The "club foot" extension can be removed and the extended motor will become a 15 incher again, no donor parts needed from another motor, no cutting or resplining needed. You'd only need to respline if you were using the lower from the true 20" 115

Okay guys help me on this? I was looking at the two motors today (both 115hp) Just buy looking at them it looks like I can put the powerhead from the
20" mid over to the 15". The newer 115 has the trim on it, so to keep that can the clamp/mounting bracket be changed over? Looks like to me the only thing that keeps them together is the stering tube, is this correct? I seen a 15 in motor on here that looked like it had a 20 in clamp/mount bracket on it, it was a new v6 though..

Okay............... I'm confused by all the pictures, so I'm just gonna list what WILL NOT interchange.

If the short engine in the picture REALLY IS a shortshaft 1150 then the newer powerhead WILL NOT go on that mid. Stickers don't mean anything. It would be a lot easier to tell what you're dealing with if you'd pull the lower skirt off both engines and post pictures.

Here's the order:

Old bolt pattern: 71 and older inline 6 and 72 ONLY 1150 are the old bolt pattern. '72 1400 ONLY and all of the 73 and newer stuff is new bolt pattern. (there are some 4 cyls that fall in this picture also, but I'm not going to confuse the issue farther by listing them in here)

Sorry for the confusion, i jumped from one problem to the other.

I think the 115 with the 15in mid is a 1973 based on the serial number
(3752201).
