Engine Builders-Things that make you go hummm

I had my 1991 2.4 EFI Bridgeport Offshore blow a hole in the front case (intake manifold-front block) today. Engine was running 7K when I felt power loss. When I got back to the dock I pulled the plugs and found top left spark plug was cracked in half in the middle of the porcelin (1/2 stuck in the boot and 1/2 threaded into head)- inline with hole in block. The hole is right behind top injectors, piston and head are shot. Is it possible broken spark plug wasn't firing every instance and blew my motor.

The f***ed-up piston and pieces of the broken rings most likely smashed into your spark plug and split it. A few more impacts and then pieces start flying out the front too. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.
