Donzi hit & run

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Hartmann who just won the retoration award at the Lake George Donzi Dust-off for his St. Tropez was hit on the CT River yesterday. A 24-28 foot baja type boat hit him at 40-50 mph, while he was stopped and drifting, with 8 people aboard. Luckily no-one was hurt, but his boat sustained some major damage in the bow. He says it set him back at least 100 hours on the restoration. Damage was all above the water line so it didn't sink. The other boat took off without checking to see if they were alright or anything. They are looking for a baja type boat with significant glass damage. Any info contact David by e-mail at hartmanndy@aol.com (hartmanndy@aol.com) or call davidh@deckfastener.com (davidh@deckfastener.com) 860 944 1210.

I'm glad no one was hurt, but it really sucks that someone would leave the scene of a potentially serious boating accident.

For those of you that run your boat in the CT River. I am trying to locate a 24 to 28 foot Baja type boat with some significant fiberglass damage. I think it was blue and white. If anyone knows anything please email me or call davidh@deckfastener.com (davidh@deckfastener.com) 860 944 1210.
Oh yeah
the crash was near cromwell on the east side just south of Guildersleeve Island (Petzolds Marine)

You might contact A & S Boats in South Windsor , they are a Baha dealer .
Maybe they could keep an eye out for a damaged Baha .

BTW, I will post it at donzi.org for ya... its where the refugees from donzi.net go when they leave .net for what ever reason.

Carry a flare gun. It will burn a hole right through f-glass. Or clean through a lifejacket in well into a body. If they run, just chase them, or sink them.

I would imagine that could quickly land you in jail for assault with a deadly weapon or worse.

So hit and run is not against the law? Most of you are in Florida, and the only good thing to come from Jeb is the self defence laws. From what Ive seen of florida law, you can use deadly force if you feel your life is in danger. Most other states require that the other person be armed, on your property, or it has to be after dark. Florida states that if there is evidence of any danger to your life, verbal or physical, you can defend yourself. If someone says "Im gonna kill you" you can blow them away and you did nothing wrong, even if they are not armed. If someone tries to run you over with a boat, I think you can "signal" them to let them know you are there. Because of the speed of their approach, you just werent quick enough and your aim wasnt right. If they already hit you, and are running, its self deffence. Them running changes it from an accident to a felony. They attempted to murder you and then ran away. Even if its not in Florida, I cant see a jury putting you in jail if someone tries to kill you then runs away. If so, you lived in a messed up state.

I am glad I got that restoration award at the LG event. I was drifting down the CT river Tuesday night. I got hit by a boat doing between 40 and 50mph. That set me back 100 hours or so. Totally opened up the Bow. Mostly topside nothing below the waterline although they had no idea as they took off and did not stop to see how bad things were. I had 8 people on board We were extrordinarly lucky that no one got hurt. Honestly we could have been killed. I think it sucks that the guy took off. I am hoping that I can find him and he has insurance that would make repair a lot easier. I think also someone should talk to him about the idea of leaving the scene of a major boating accident.

Thanks for any help

self defense. the law considers vehicles/boats as a deadly weapon. you never know they might come back and ram you again.

That's just crazy hit and run; hope you find this operator. In any case they'll probably be reporting that boat stolen soon anyway. I doubt they will ever show their boat off in that area again. Was a police report filed?
Good luck!
