Does anybody know much about these? I'm looking at either the Coolscan V ED or 5000 ED. My parents have thousands of old 35mm slides, some are loose and some are in projector rolls. over half of them date back to when they were born in 1946 and many before. we really need to get them on a computer before something happens to them.

any thoughts?

Casey, they are very good scanners. You'll need to get the auto feeder to scan a lot of slides. :)

they're verg good scanners, but you'll spend forever scanning old photos. get a lite tray and layout the slides or negatives on it. take digital picture using a macro lens. this will give you a reasonable picture for viewing on a computer [after a little photo shop macro work for sizing and reversal foe negs]. then when you want to make a hard copy, use the scanner to produce a good image. the computers and scanner are faster today, but you'll spend 20 times longer scanning then by using the lite tray. when you take the picture dont go overboard with the image size. 1080 and 800 is good enough for viewing. plus it talkes less time to load.
