Hello Wideopen..them part numbers are for carburettors.
both of them are from 1985 year model V8's.
the first number # 0394699..is off the 300 hp eg: CE 300 TLCOS.
& the second # 0397479 ..is off the 275 hp eg: CE 275 TLCOS.
hope this helps .

ok is it possible the 300 hp carbs came off of an 87? I was told one was an 87 and one was an 85, is that the diffrence in HP between the two is the carbs?
thanks

OK so I didnt get that question answered how about this one. Why did OMC put to diffrent size carbs on the 85 motors?
The smaller set of carbs have 65d main and the larger carbs have 78d.

The 275 has less compression and a baffel in the air box, the 86/7 carbs were larger and had 80D jets in the 300

ok that makes sense but according to the post above both sets of carbs I have are from 85. Why does one set have larger jets in them than the other?
So If I have an 85 275 with 65d jets in them this is normal. I just dont want to take this thing out for the first time and melt it down.
Thanks

Carroll,
If both carbs are the same size, a motor with more compression and a better flowing airbox will require a larger main jet. It sounds like that is the difference between the '85 275hp and 300hp. At least that is what I understand from racer's post and the other posts above. If the carbs are different sizes, the larger carb will require a larger main jet to begin with, due to compensating for the increased volume of airflow through the carb body. More air=more fuel. The jets would need to be even larger with increased compression and a better flowing airbox. This help?
But I didn't help you with your question of...
What is the stock size jet for an '85 275hp V-8?

All the parts manuals are online and show the original orifice sizes.

OK, here's the skinny...
'85 275HP engine model number CE275TLCOS and CE275TXCOS
carb number 397479
Factory jetting
idle 30C
mid 36C
main 65D
'85 300HP enging model number CE300TXCOS
carb number 394699
Factory jetting
idle 36C
mid 42C
main 78D
(as taxxivader and racer said)
All '87 300HP use carb number 397581 with jets of Idle33c, Mid22c, and Main80D, (big bore carbs) All '86 300HP use different carb numbers, 397339, but same jetting (also big bore carbs)
Looks like both your motors are '85s and have factory jetting... Run it.
So, based on this, and what racer has already said, looks like you should be able to swap heads and complete intakes down the road, and get another 25hp, since you already have the parts.
