Hey guys
I need some advise on which prop is going to have more bow lift. I have a heavy 19.5" fish&ski with a 200 mariner on it and the only way I can seem to get the bow up is to trim all the way out and even then it never really feels like its getting "up" on the pad and running efficiently. I realise it probably needs more setback (4" hyd plate now) but I don't know how strong the transoms are on these old Astroglass hulls, so I'd rather not risk major damage, the lakes I run on can get rather ruff at times to. Currently I'm running a 20p predator 3 blade and a 21p Rev4.
Thanks a bunch....Josh

MORE setback is needed for sure... but the REV4 has more lift than both IMO...

both have real bow lift.
Your transom is fine!
Differance!
Trophy
hole shot accelaration and good cruise
Tempest plus
No hole shot, strong mid and top end.

I agree with Al, both are good props and both have plenty of lift. I have run both on my boat, which is also 19ft and heavy, but we are talking about two totally different hulls. Mine happens to have some lift actually built into the hull (Gambler bass boat).
You also mentioned that it's a fish 'n' ski boat. Are you planning on skiing and playing with it, or just cruising around and playing?
The biggest difference I found between the Trophy and the Tempest is the handling. The Trophy does handle a lot better, and will give you a better hole shot. The Tempest will give you a better top end, and a little bit slower hole shot.
Bottom line, in my opinion, between the two props you are looking at, a Trophy Plus is probably the way to go. Pitch size is going to depend on a few factors. RPM's at WOT, height on the jackplate that you are running and water pressure.

Meaning I can get away without more setback or I'm ok to put more setbaack on it?

It gets used for a little bit of towing mostly kneeboard and wakeboard other than that just for cruising/playing and very ocasionally for fishing
So by the sounds of it a Trophy is the way to go for me! Now I just have to decide on 19 or 21 pitch, but I think I'm going to do a little more setup work on it and get more positive numbers with the props I have before I decide on the pitch.
Thanks A Bunch For Y-alls Help.....Josh

the only two things that are going to help the slow speed towing are; 1 doel fins or 2 even better a set of hydraulic trim tabs. the tabs will allow flat planing to under 10mph. i doubt you'll see much difference between the prop on a19 or 21. the 4 or 5 blade prop will be your better choise for the extra surface area. that will help your hole shot.

I have a Gambler SuperSport, same problem at first, not enough bow lift, I tried the Tempest, it did not work well at all, I run the Trophy and the Mazco HP, both of which are 4-blade props. I added more set back at one point and to my amazement it hurt rather than helped, went back to 5 inches and the boat lifted great. Like many will tell you it is ALL in your set up, you can have ton's of horsepower but if your not putting it to work the right way, you'll suffer every time. I am trying new props as we speak, and different pitches, Big Al, I may be in touch with you soon for a purchase of a new Trophy, I know you don't like them to well but they seem to be about the best I have found for my application.
