View Full Version : Auto-Inflat-Vests
Now that I turned up & modified my looper I'm thinking of getting a good vest. Bass Pro shop has one that matches my boat but it's $250, I need two so will or can I find some elsewhere that will be as good and maybe a bit less?

Check into your local regs. Many places (I know FL is one of them) an auto inflate vest DOES NOT count as a PFD. In order to pass inspection you MUST have another USCG approved PFD onboard the vessel for each person that is wearing an auto inflate vest. ;)

What are you asking? What speed?
No that jacket is junk and I don't even have to look at it.
Inflatable + $250. It costs too much to provide anything for you safety or body recovery-wise. Its not enough protection to float you, not enough money to save you.
Will it even stay on?
I could rant and rave but my jacket has impact panels in it. I can imagine hitting the water with a limp sausage that inflates a few skips after it came off me.:D

Fish cops busted the boat next to me, (right after they got done with me, no running lights 10 minutes after sunset) for no life jackets. They had inflatables on board. I was close enough to overhear the cop say that they have to be worn to be counted. (Life jackets do not have to be worn, just accessable)
I think they make up the rules on the fly.

Maybe you can get a deal on a headstone that reads:
"But look at the money he saved!"

Fishing on the jetty inflatable is fine. But they are what they are and if you do more than fall in not the best. You can beat that price at any boating store that has a logo. I wear a sterns alot like the mercury ones with leg straps but not for racing. Rick

The widow would get the life insurance pay off right away instead of 5 to 7 years without the body.
