Just bought an 84 2.4 with a broke crank shaft. I see used crankshafts on the board, but don't know the difference between them.

Can anyone explain the difference ? and are there things about them to look out for?

Thanks for your time.

oiler cranks have the gear on the journal for the oil pump non oilers do not have the machined boss for the gear.... if your motor is a non oiler it is best to match the crank... however oilers come up usable without work a bit more often.... either will work if your non oilinjected if you have oil uinjection you need an oiler crank to retain function..

Just make sure your top bearings are the correct size

Thanks fir the help guys.

Bought this motor on a Bullet 20V and there is no sign of oil injection in the boat or the motor, so I'm guessing non-oiler. Gonna tear her down before looking for a crank.

I understand using a non-oiler crank in a non-oiler motor...but ya'll are saying the oiler cranks will show up on the boards for sale more often...(maybe more common)...and that they will work in a non-oiler motor.

Will an oiler crank have to be modified any way to work in a non-oiler motor? Also....ya'll said make sure the top bearing are the correct size. Are the bearing journals on the cranks different between oilers and non-oilers?

Educate me, please ! I really appreciate your time.

there are a couple different top bearing journal sizes... as long as they match or you can get bearings to mate up you will be fine with either..

look at the side of the block where the oil pump May have been??? if there's a plug that meens you have an oiler crank if not when you buy the new crank just remove the oil gear...... and top bearing are not that expencive
