I read about this somewhere, maybe Hot Boat, anyway, does anyone know about this swap, or of a thread or link, using the V4 Lu for its smaller size? Thanks in advance, Chris.

It will bolt up, but you then have a 2:1 (or 1.92) case with a 13 spline prop shaft. There are guys here who have modified the case to use the V6 15 spline shaft.

The guys I know have modified a V6 prop shaft to the case. I think the drive shaft length is different. They are not as strong also.

As Joe says, the 4 1/8" V4 case will bolt up to any V6. But the driveshafts and shiftshafts also have to match. There are early, late and 60 degree "Eagle" types. Shift shafts also need to match but they are easy to change.

I have a couple of these and both use aftermarket propshafts. I used them originally under a V4 so I could use V6 props. That works great. I have also run them under my old 235, but not many hours. Under a stout looper V6, I expect the working life would be very brief. It might work pretty well under a 150 or 175 Eagle. OMC made some protoypes for the Eagles but they never made it to production.

People have posted that modifications can make a V6 shaft fit, but I've never seen details. Looking at the cases and shafts, I see no way to remachine the V6 shaft or V4 case to make it work. The ones I have appeared to have a new external piece friction welded to the factory V4 inner.
