Well, re-cap of story, took stator off, the top cap that the stator bolts to, part of it broke, so I got a new one. Pulled top cap off and notice part of bottom of bearing was broken. Crap! However, it does not look like a fresh break and I looked in top of motor with flashlight and fished around in there with zip-tie and could find nothing! My first thought was that it had fallen down in motor, but, it doesn't look like there's any gaps in there big enough for it to fall. Could it have been this way for a while? What should I do now? Pics enclosed...thanks!

You can and should replace the bearing. It is a big top main crank so make sure you get the right bearing. The proper thing to do is pull down the whole motor and find the broken piece unless you and totally sure its not in there somewhere.

Well, I just pulled the intake off and looked over the motor best I could with a really bright flashlight. Everything appears to be in pristine condition. Can't find signs of anything. There's no signs of it ever being in the top of the motor, as there isn't enough clearance for that chunk to fall down in and prolly would've torn things up if it did. This is a drop on powerhead I bought off here, and it was supposed to have been rebuilt not all that long ago. I'd be willing to bet that it was broken while pushing the bearing in maybe. So, I'm gonna get a new set of reeds while I've got it apart, and a new bearing obviously, and some gaskets and put it back together. It has dual stage reeds and some of the clearances are more than I'd like to see. Gonna do some searching tonight on what everyone on here thinks of which reeds. I'll keep this updated if I find anything else.

The piece would be stuck on the top of the crank. It can get past the upper crank ring.

We spun the motor slowly while looking in there and still found no signs of anything anywhere. The break doesn't appear to be fresh. I'm assuming whoever put it together broke it while installing the bearing and called it good. I dunno who rebuilt it, but it sounds like something somebody would do.
If you feel comfortable with it then go with it. Don't press the bearing in. Freeze the bearing, heat the end cap and it will drop right in. Use a little red loctite.
