how can you tell if it's in or out-- thanks

without pulling things off and lookin??? easiest ways id tell is.....1st id say its alot louder with the can out. 2nd tip off would be that the mid gets this chalky white substance on it after a day out on the lake and the black paint looks a little faded on the mid. those 2 together would convince me that the can was out.
