View Full Version : Which props? Mercury Chopper 2 or Mazco RE ?
I need to purchase a pair of 14.5" x 30 props for my 21' Sonic (shallow vee) with twins. I tried cleavers, but had no bow lift.
What are your opinions on Mercury's Chopper 2 or Mazco's RE?
Advantages & disadvantages
Thanks
Frank

i have ran all kind of choppers, and they will give you plenty of bow lift. i would talk to people that know your boat, and see what they are running with similar setups.
what motors are you running????? and lu?????
good luck

Mazco have a history of breaking!
Personally i do not like them.
And don't start!
There is always someone who has one, loves it, never broke it.
Chopper II is a better choice and most major prop shops can tune it for you!

I like them they are FAST!! Plus they are a bit closer to a custom propeller. But, like Al said they will--do!!--crack! Most time just when you get the $%&#$% thing running like you like it! Buy the choppers and have them "tuned"
I think the durability factor, along with the amount of raw bowlift out of the box, and the additional potential for re-working and customizing would make the Choppers the better choice.

Iv'e got a set of mazco 141/2-30's for sale. They gave me too much bow lift on a 28' skater. I switched to 15".
The props are durable and fast.

I LOVE MY MAZCO(YEP, CRACKED AND BEEN REPAIRED:eek: ) AND ALL THE CHOPPERS I RAN DROVE LIKE POOP ON MY BOAT. ITS BEST TO FIND SOMEONE WITH KNOWLEDGE ABOUT YOUR SET-UP THAT HAS PERHAPS TRIED THEM ALREADY.

with a boat like that why do you need bow lift, and how fast do you go with it ?
I bought a pair of 14.5 x 30 Mazco REs from somebody on S&F.
The props I had were cleavers and would lift the back up and hold the bow down. With three people and gear we were running 81. By myself I was running 91mph. I believe the boat will do better with a round ear prop especially with more than one person.

:D Hi!
You can also try the following props:
Hoss Hyperdrive
Mercury ET's
Performance propellers chopper style props. They will start producing counterrotating props soon.
All of them round ear which create bowlift / less transom lift.
I have a phantom 25 with twin Merc 2.5 EFI SS engines. Currently running a 4 blade Hydromotive Quad X O/B. I will test Chopper II and Hoss Hyperdrive's nex week.

FrankIf you are looking for all out top end speed i would go with the choppers, Worked they will need a little work out of the box. Like one of the other guy's were saying don't look past the bravo 1's they will work well all the way around and in some cases run just as fast as choppers. Most of the time that is on bigger heaver boat's than your's but if your interested in mid range cruise bravo 1's hydromotives props work well also. I have worked with your boat but only with a single o/b and the worked chopper was the fastest and the 4bld was 3 to 4 mph slower but carried weight better. Hope This Helps. Rich

I have a 30 chopper 11 out of the box that lifts realy well and is a fast prop! The only thing I would do to it this winter is have it balanced. They have a large blade area and quite a lot of cup. Dont have but want a Hydromotive because every one that has one says they kick! I have a performance propellers Drag4 in a 28 that also has good lift and load carrying ability. So i would emagine the 29 or 30 in same would be just as good. Very very smooooth prop to run.
