OK, dumb question but I have to ask as I am on my second Holley Regulator. I am trying to adjust my holley red pump down to 5 lbs using a Holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator. When the fuel line is hooked to the carbs I can turn the adjuster all the way out and it only get down to 6 lbs.
This is with the boat not running.

Are you suppose to adjust this when the motor is running?
Maybe my guage is shot but its a nice liquid filled one from Jegs and it looks fine.

Whats the deal?

I think it has to be flowing when adjusting. Welding gas and air regulators are meant to be adjusted while flowing. Maybe try pinching the line and running it back into the tank while adjusting.

Free flowing as in through the carbs while running or free flowing directly into a gas can as I believe there is likely a difference with regards to restriction. I'm pretty sure it set when not running like an efi motor but just want to make sure. May have to go buy a new guage just to double check that I guess
Thanks

You can set a Holley regulator dead headed but you must start from no pressure( The adjuster all the way out) and increase the pressure. The Regulator has no means of bleed residual pressure off when you try and decrease it and since the Holley mpump puts out 6 lbs of pressure it cannot get below that balance pressure with out relieving it's output when dead headed. Also Holley regulators will tend to "Creep" when dead headed ..

I had a problem that was driving me nuts with my Jegs guage reading too low, yours seems to be high, I have a low pressure holley regulator brand new(I bought the wrong one), if you replace the guage, and still cant get it down, that i will sell to ya for $20.

So 3 months later you sell me the Jegs gauge along with a holley red pump and a regulator. I install it and cant get more than 3.5 lbs. I set the regulator wide open and took it to River ranch. Had fuel pouring out all over the place. Finally left early and came home to search for answers. Found your old post. So the gauge was off by 5 or 6 pounds and you sold it to me anyway? You faild to mention it in your for sale post:http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141911 Thanks for nothing! I blew out the seals on my carbs so you could pocket $10 for a gauge you knew was bad? WTF????

I apologize for the delay in response, I was away at the SBI/APBA worlds in Key West. I dont know what to tell ya, I know how this looks, but I dont do bizness that way, after I got my situation solved, and replumbed everything, and was cleaning out the garage, I rechecked all of the parts, since I had 2 non return regulators(low and High) to sell, I had mixed them up, and wanted to make sure the buyers got the correct ones, I reinstalled them to sort which was which, and I thought I had checked the gage during this process also, since simply replacing the gage didnt really solve the problem back then, still had to change to a return style. I had so much crap going on I may have missed it, and am sorry, whats it gonna take to make this right??? I will gladly refund your $$$, and extra for the carb seats.

Dead hed regulators are JUNK.....I had more fuel related problems than anybody out ther till I went to a bypass regulator!!!....Holley, Mallory, Carter all presented me problems when dead hed'in.....I talked to the guy that designed tha Barry Grant by pass and after hiz talk, I got one....End ov fuel pressure creep'in, fluctuat'in, etc.....

They are designes for large volume, high pressure pumps...I use a Bosch EFI pump and run 3.5#s ov pressure.....I also have a BG regulator for EFI, so If I want to run a EFI powerhed, I don't have to re-plum the fuel system!!!....

This don't make what U do wrong, Juss relay'in what I do and my take on tha dead hed regulators....
