We just picked up a Vector with a smooth running 90 merc on it, 1979 model. We went skiing 4 times and it shut off while running. No starter, trim, or choke. Nothing, all dead. After 10 minutes, started right up and allowed us to get half way back and it killed again. But this time it would turn over fine and choke but wouldn't fire at all. Later that afternoon it fired right up. When this thing runs it's awesome and strong.
The next morning it turned over and would not not fire at all. 30 minutes later, it fires right up. This happens day in, and day out. Today we skied all day again without a single hiccup. This evening went out to start it and it would turn over and over but still would not fire, period.
Any ideas? We've checked out the gigantic plug on the side of the engine that connects all the electrics but that seems sturdy and making good connection. Not sure what else to do at this point.
