Pros, cons, dry it out how much? The water holes look to be about 3/8" and would like to stay somewhat conservative...1/4"? More or less?

Don't know if I will yet but would love some feedback!

Thanks,

Jb

I dont recomend drying out exhaust stacks. My bridgeport melted the water pump housing. I am now replacing it.

If you really want to dry stack your motor get in touch with Jay Smith and let him do it. He dry stacks the deal then directs water right on the water pump housing to keep that from happening. He did mine and it looks really trick. He also directs water to keep the heat from dis-coloring the tower housing. It's a trick deal that he does and it works.

Snowman, Jay dry stacked mine and did a great job on it. I run a 2.5 280 on a Bullet Bass Boat and I like it. I did a couple things at once for me to say which one made the most difference in performace would not provide good feedback.

I will say this, that my dad liked it so much on my motor that he sent his exhaust plate to Jay so he could do the same to it.

I added the spacer plate and dry stacked at the same time. Mid range punch has signifigantly increased. My top end is a little better, gained about 1.5 mph. the motor sounds really trick too. Water pressure is about 22-25 psi WOT. While he had it, I had him cut my tuner also. Give Jay a call or email him he is a great guy. I didn't see any low end loss at all, in fact, I feel like the acceleration through the entire rpm range is better.

The exhaust on my 2.5L 260 SS has been dried out some. After running it for 3 season like that I just replaced the waterpump impeller. The housing was in great shape & the impeller had hardly any wear/fatigue. The motor sounds great - has a crisp sound to it. :D

Maybe I should do a search on previous posts, but just wanted to learn what exactly dry stacking is or entails. Can you guys elaborate for me? Thanks:)

I am not an expert on the subject, but I have it done to mine and I will describe what I see. If someone else has more they can add to it, please feel free. I am just a shade tree mechanic, not a expert.

The water that is pumped in from your water pump and through the block is dumped through several outlets. You have the tale tale pee holes through the cowl that comes from the head and poppet and the rest dumps out through your block into the exhaust plate where your tuner bolts on. The water dumps directly over your tuner and the way I see it, interferes with the exhaust flow. Dry Stacking is rerouting that water away from your exhaust.

There are several methods to do this. The way Jay did mine is the slickest I have seen. He runs two stainless steel lines from the exhaust plate dump and directs the water to the water pump. Those lines have a small holes in them to spray a mist of water that I assume keeps the leg and tuner somewhat cool. He then adds two fittings to the exhaust plate that routes the water out. I added two hoses to this and ran them through my cowl. I now have 4 water outlets through the cowl instead of just two.

There may be more to it than that, but this is what I see on mine.
