Has anybody done this?

I need more setback. I have a 10" plate on the boat now and I have an old 5" one sitting in the corner. I'd like to try it. If I get big improvements I'll buy a new 15" jack.

I've seen many boats with two jack plates on them. As long as you use good hardware your ok with it. On bass boats that need alot of set back one jack is usually fixed and the other is Hydraulic. Bolt it all up and check it after your first test and see but I wouldn't be scared to do it. Your going to have a hard time finding a 15" one pre-made any way.

after that do a setback bracket from randy with the built in height you prefer or just get a regular setback and a flat jack ;)

I have done it many times without a problem. Use the best fasteners you can buy, if one is a hydraulic and the other static type plate, use the stationary plate first and the hyd. second. Check the weight rating for plates especially the one that attaches to the boat very important as the effects of leverage on the first plate are greatly increased with setback . Most important can your transom handle it. I forget what the formula is but the weight of the motor in relation to what the transom feels doubles for every 4 or 5 inches of setback applied. 14 inches was fine on mine but with 16 there was a very noticable flex to the transom, and that was even with alot of extra reinforcement.

It's not right, but I've run a 6' rapid jack and a Land and Sea hyd togeather for years. Also ran with 2" spacers between them for a while. Like I say it's not right but but for a short spin or two.....

Call Chuck Goodman, he's MR. Rapid Jack he will build you what ever you need. He also is Mr. Nitrox, that funny little Blue Bottle.

Wish I knew, what he's forgotten!
