Im looking to put an air horn setup on my dakota. I will be running 2 12v mf-1050 compressors to a 3 gallon tank. I bought a 90/120psi pressure switch and a 12v switch to feed the horns. I also bought a viair on board air installation kit with a dash mounted guage and on off swich.

My question is what air horns are the most efficent and loudest? :D What horns are the most obnoxioius for the buck? I have seen alot of train horn setups in Florida but the local volunteer fire house up here has a rig with 2 24in grover emergency horns and they are loud  i have been lookin on ebay etc. for a set of them. Just wondering if anyone knows any secrets, i dont want to get scammed on ebay by buying some "150db" horn that only holds up for 10 blasts

thanks for any info!
Kevin

Might want to consider a larger tank. The big horns need lots of air. I went with a 5-gal tank from Hornblasters...the stainless one. They have it listed for $115, but when I called to order, the guy said it was only $85. NICE.

I have the Air-Zenith pump. 2.6cfm or something like that...almost twice the CFM of the Viair pumps. Not familiar with the pumps you have.

Still haven't picked my horns, but I think I'm going with this guy: http://stores.ebay.com/Siege-Engineering-Equipment_Air-Horns_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ3QQftidZ2QQtZkm

A friend of mine has their Hammer 3 setup and it's about as close as I've heard to the Nathan P3 setup, but less then $90.

i will definatly do the 5 gallon tank then, my grandfather has a few he used for car tires etc.. im gonna steal the one that leaks around the valve :D

i have considered the train horns but after hearing the grover emergency horns i want two of them. they are only issued to emergency vehicle manufacturers and like i said they have been on the local fire truck for a while and are LOUD... I hope they dont need more air then the train horns do. they are longer but i dont know anything about how much air they demand, they do have 7/16th inlets  .

GOTTA HAVE TRAIN HORNS!!!!!!!!!!!

nuff said if you can still hear me!!!
the more air you have the better any of them will sound!!!!

Also check around for old truck savage yards you can pick up long narrow tank from the truck CHEAP!!!!! (Peterbuilt uses aluminum on alot of there trucks trust me) and the hanger are all made up. They fit nice on the side of the frame rail or you can bolt them to the bed next to the driveshaft.........LOTS OF AIR!!!!

As I said above, those Hammer 3's from Siege sound a lot like the Nathan P3's...and they are less than $90.

i like cheap, 1. i live in queens/brooklyn so i wont be paying 500 bucks for shiney horns cause ill have to unbolt them and lock them in my room at night. 2 im 18 and have a boating problem so the 90 bucks are sounding better and better lol...

the key with train horns... LOTS OF HIGH PRESSURE AIR!!!!

the more the happier....

trains carry upto and over 200PSI of air supply... so the more ya got the better.......

nuthin like sneekin up on some cab driver and blwin off a 200 PSI air shot through a train horn.... if they dont jump out of yer way from sheer terror the reaction jump will do it on its own...

200psi is no good if you are feeding it with a 3/8 air line, trains are loud because of the 3/4 air pipe, no cheap horn is going to sound like a real nathan ka3 if its set up right!!

Hornblasters, on the web, got a set and they are loud!!

been on the truck for over 2 years now, got the conductor special, mounted them under, between the frame. sound goes out everywhere.

priced reasonably.
