boating and drving have nothing in common with regards to licencing.... t least in every other state... as you do not need a drivers licence to pilot a boat.... so as long as you can get to the boat ramp legaly per your restrictions you should be just fine ESPECIALLY if you boat on the great lakes as they fall under federal juristiction and you are not required to carry any ID for the feds and pilot a pleasure boat...

In New Hampshire if you lose your lience you lose your right to boat also!!! I have a freind who went thru this with a DWI lost it for 6 months now has his boat for sale!!! And yes we have a boating lience also...try getting a BWI and see if you don't lose your car lience too!!!

in every state ive boated in.... (30 of 50) a BWI results in a DWI and atleast in the NW you loose your ability to renew your registration for 2 years on your boat.... but a restriced or suspended licence has no effect on the boating licence... if aplicable... and honestly every time ive been checked they never ask for drivers licence... just ID..fishing licence counts for name info and boat registration.. to varify you are the owner or have permission from boat owner to use it...

no there were some NE states.. some southern states all the NW and 90% of the Midwest states... no i didnt take a "boaters course" but i did ASK at the ramp if there was any thing i needed to know that was relative to their state.. all said that their bigest and worst boating fine was BWI and it cost your licence..

I don't want to be nosey, but I think it would depend on the restriction. For instance if it was a day time only restriction, I think it would apply to the water as well.

In the state of FL if you are under the age of 21 you have to have a florida boaters safety ID on you at all times while in operation of the vessel. Once you take the course it is good for your lifetime. The highest offense you can make is BWI or BUI and everybody the opperates a boat is eligable for one.

sweet this is going to be nice pass the popcorn....

the problem I find is not knowing the laws here in NH we have a 150 foot rule.. when down in Fla it kinda freaks meo ut when whipping down a canal and knowone slows????? I think if you use some common sense it will get you around safely....

I will say noise and speed are issues that worry me most, got rid of the offshore and try to keep it around 50 mph to be safe ( Unless, well you know) I do know that the other half isn't real keen on blowing over somes wake 50 feet behind someone anyway so I try to use the 150 rule alot!!

States Ive boated
NH, VT, NY, Mass, CT, Fla, Canada thru lake Champlain

Well her in FL you are supossed to be 200 feet from any type of shore before you take off.But that does not include canals and rivers.

In Texas, you are required to have your drivers license with you at any time on a watercraft. If it is suspended, you can and will be popped for driving without a license. They will impound your boat for that, and they do not take care of anything in impound. Texas doesnt require a boat license, but you do have to have a car license, in good standing. Now, if you are too young for a drivers license, you can take a water safety course at the age of 12, and if you pass, you can operate watercraft like anyone with a license. Course is run by Parks and Wildlife, so its boring and doesnt teach you anything, but its what I did so I could ride my ski's when I was younger. I wish they would require everyone to get a license or at least take this course. Friday night I hit the lake and was almost hit 3 times by people with no lights on. Went back to the marina and watched a 4 guys who couldnt get their boat loaded in 2 hours of blocking the whole ramp (3 boats wide). Im sorry, but if 4 people cant get a 16' boat on a trailer (and refuse any help offered, as well as retorting with insults) should not be allowed on the water. I wonder how bad they drove the boat? Someone with a huge cabin cruiser got tired of waiting and pretty much ran their trailer over (smashing their truck as well) and that pretty much ended the show. People who ran the marina told them that if they cant get a boat on the trailer with no wind and smooth water, they are not welcome there, go elsewhere to load up.

It is unbelievable how stupid some of the people on the water are, of course the drivers on the road leave a lot to be desired at times. Society seems to embrase ignorance.

I guess Texas must have been one of the few states that Mr.150aintenuff hasn't boated in.

Nick is right, trailer backed in so far that the tailgate on their lifted F250 was in the water. I offered help and was told to "fu(k off, I have been doing this for years." I called a buddy who works for the marina and he called the owner of the marina. Owner was there and told them to leave and never come back. They were pitching a fit because their truck and trailer just got smashed up by a huge cabin cruiser trailer. Owner said, "you were blocking the ramp, its your problem." They left, and Im sure went looking for another ramp to load up from. Idiots need to be castrated so they cant continue polluting the gene pool.

Photo ID and proof of having taken the Watercraft safety class is required if you dont have a drivers license. If you do have a drivers license, and it is suspended, you are not allowed to operate watercraft. You could have the photo ID (state issued, nothing else allowed) and the water safety course stuff on you, but if they run your ID and you have a suspended license, you are going to jail. Seen it happen more than once. People think that the ID wont check back to their license, but it will. Plus, if someone cant operate a car safely, do you want them on the water? Im sorry but I dont want to end up drowning because some loser gets drunk and hits my boat. If they do it in a car, they will do it on the water, and have even less control of the boat. I wish 1 DWI meant you couldnt operate anything, even a bicycle. Or a lawnmower. Ive lost friends to drunk drivers both on the water and on the roads. If you have a wreck while intoxicated, you should be put down. If you dont care about your own safety, or the lives and safety of others, you are not a productive member of society and are just taking up space that could be filled with someone who isnt careless.

OK:

Your single assumption is! Suspended licensee for DWI

If you are convected of DWI and this is the reason for suspension then you "CAN NOT" operate a boat.
ONLY FOR SUSPENSION ON DWI.

No "DRIVERS LICENSE" is required, a drivers license under suspension for other reasons does not apply.

NC has same law, you can be under suspension for unpaid tickets, insurance, points ect. (but once you are convected of DWI you are done!)
