Put a 29 pitch mazco Re3 on the Viper and went 77 today @ about 6500. That's 6 mph better and 500 rpm less with just changing the prop. The 28 merc chopper was making me pull too many RPM. I am about 1/2 above the pad and I'm gonna try going up another 1/4 inch. Still have good water pressure. I feel like I am using too much trim. The newbie is gaining on it... I have a feeling I'm going to break 80 tomorrow...:D Thanks for all the help guys....

Don't worry Vector4m. I may be a newbie to high speed boats but I'm not a newbie to going fast in general. If I am going into the "70+ chine walk zone" I always have my vest on. :) I'm getting better at driving it but I'm not quite there yet.

150vamp.....I may sell the 28 copper but I'm not sure just yet. I don't want to use my new 29 mazco all the time. (Although I like it so far.) Do you have anything you want to trade? I may want a lower pitch prop for pulling my kids on the tube.....

I do have a extra torque shift prop comes out of the hole like raped ape I can get my vamp to shoot straight up in the air and foot out of the water no joke! I love the prop just want to try different props and see what I can gain like I said 68 mph on gps need a little more

Ronnie,
The 28P that I have doesn't have enough "bite" for whatever reason. Maybe it's been reworked or something. With the 28p merc chopper I was doing 71mph @ 7000 rpm. I put the 29p mazco on it and went 77 and the rpm's dropped to 6500 with no other changes! That's way more than 1 degree of pitch should change things. Don't you agree? Also, the hull flies better than before. I can feel it become lighter and start to fly at 55mph rather than 65mph, and there was no loss in acceleration going to the 29p as far as I could tell. I think this prop will help achieve my goal of 80 with a passenger up front and 85 by myself at 6800rpm. Am I making any sense???:D
Lastly, when you told me you ended up setting your Viper up with the propshaft 1/2 to 3/4 above the pad, that was with only 2 inches of set back right? I have 5 inches of set back so I should end up at least 3/4 above the pad. Do yopu agree?

Thanks Again,
Steve

HI. Seems your chopper is allowing way to much slip, a heavy cupping would likely make it better . The mazco is hooking up very well and creating good lift. I turn a 28 merc. cleaver 6000 on v4 -140 70.1 gps 81 viper you are running quite well thanks.

I'm with Ronnie, 1.87:1 gear in that lower with either your mazco or your 28" chopper way faster than the 2:1 set up. That boat must pull through the whole rpm band with 2:1 gears in her
