How much is to much for a boat, I'm looking at a 17 year old Scarab that is in awesome condition it has 96 efi 3 liter motors. I would say its a 8 out of ten. So I looked the boat up in NADA. I made the guy a offer but I was about 10 grand off, he wants more then what its in the book for??????

I think it depends on boat & condition and how bad YOU want it. Nothing else really matters. As for books.............. I've got a late 90's F16R Sea Rader jet boat that I bought new. It has 9 hours on the clock, and those 9 hrs are the ONLY time it's ever been outside of an enclosed garage and it even looks/smells new under the engine hatch. I'm fixing to sell it, but the book value isn't even close to what it'll take.
One thing wrong with books is that they tend to use numeric equations to fill in values of boats that there are NO actual sales to compare them to. If you start looking through them at similar items the similarities in their arrived at value are obvious, and as the condition falls off, the percentages of depreciation are exactly the same.
If you like it, wanna keep it, and feel like it's worth what he wants, screw the books............. buy it and make YOURSELF happy.

The thing you have going is that it's a buyers market. Not much is selling. If you really like the boat, meet him half way on the price and be ready to walk away if he doesn't budge. If he doesn't take it right away, he'll probably call you back in a week or so. ;)
