currently running a valero yt with 10 inces of setback on a manual jack plate i was thinking of buying a used hydro plate buts its only 6 inces of set back. would i be making a mistake by moving the motor that much toward the boat

10 inch is to much... 6" is perfect... especially if the weight is in the stern like it should be....

would that much set back be part of the problem as why the boat wants to pourpise(sp)all the time. i know its a small boat with a big motor but you have to constantly be in the gas hard in order to get it do not bounce all around

yep..... that would be why... my V hull has a zone from 35-50 mph that it does the same thing with certain props at certain hights.(usually when i have it burried) the shorter setback will solve ALOT of that a 6" setback on a stock 3 ram trim yeilds 17.5" from back of notch to the leading edge of the lower with a titus cone.. add 5" to that and you see that you have a total of nearly 22" total setback from the end of the pad..... you only want about 1 inch per foot of hull.. so 17.5 is nearly perfect to the ratio on a 17'9" boat..

also set the propshaft 1 1/4" below the bottom of the pad with the new setback

I run a 10" on my Valero and I don't have a porpose problem. I'm crazy though!

I wouldn't ever say you suck. Slower maybe but never suck!

Ok in all fairness The motor was a 95 carb,5 pedal, 2.5 200, tight heads about 150 per cyl.,drystack exhaust, light flywheel offshore mid, cle case, 30 cleaver. On a 86 YT

Ahhhh..... Details, details. Thanks for coming 'clean'. At that level of tune, that's very impressive.

30 cleaver strung out got me the best speed. But a 28 hoss put pretty constantly to about 90 which is what i ran most fo the time. I found getting less bow lift from the cleaver made the boat run more level and faster. But i still like round ear for everyday running.

Tighting the head alone set that thing off! To me thats one of the best mods for the money.

I found the CLE to run the best on that boat. My motor was a merc factory repower never gone into except heads removed and a light weight flywheel installed. And no air box. Maybe the extra power comes from the drystack and G-force tunner.

Go with 6" it wont hop as bad at slow speed and will be as fast if not faster on top. Not only that it wont be as hard on the transom. RMH's boat had more speed than 95 in it I am sure. I would bet I could have pulled at least 96-97 out of it had i gotten the chance to run it before he sold it...damn you rmh

i know there is alot more than 80ish in my boat if I could get it to stay inthe right RPM range... but I cant get a deal on a good 30P-32P prop that I need for the 2:1 case I got.... then its setting the boat up for the prop all over again..... Im happy with the 80 MPH at 7K that im getting now... wish it was 80 @ 6K but oh well... next hydrostream... i find that with a round ear i cant trim the motor level at WOT and keep the boat on a long enough section of pad to stay stable with the gearcase and setup I have currently... with an ET or Cleaver it performs ALOT better and is easier to run IMO... but havent had one long enough to get the boat re dialed in to aximise her potential.... right now Im stuck with a 27 SRX..... good hole shot... but other than that its a dog. but in all fairness the motor isnt perfect either..

you are talking about a V bottom, he has a YT, I may be wrong, but that is going to make a big difference in set up

Probably get another 5-10 mph if you'd chop off the top 8 feet:rolleyes: of those sails .....or seats....or whatever they are

no.. just need a healthy motor... it overheated and kinda screwed up before it totally got through the break in so it never really got a good chance to show what a true 200hp could do.. its probably running about 160-180 right now at best...
