Hope someone can add some light. On the early 2.0 & 2.4 EFI's, Just what did this little black box, (throttles position indicator box) do? Can it be removed by updating ECM. Right now the one that I have is a 11350A4, Formula 1 2.0 EFI. I have extra TPI boxes, external TPI's, Temp sensors. What's the difference between a engine with a TPI indicator box and one with out.
Thanks Tim
I've never understood why exactly they needed them. Some motors (Laser EFI's, 200's, etc) have mechanical TPI's that can be calibrated to change idle and midrange response. Others have a vacuum-driven TPI module. Why, I have no idea. The ECU's MAP sensor often connects to the same area of the intake manifold that the TPI box attaches to. The vacuum TPI box determines throttle position by comparing RPM to the amount of vacuum pull in the manifold.
280 electronics, and most digital 260 electronics seem to be rigged up to run without any sort of external TPI. My Brucato PCU also doesn't use a TPI, it only reads the manifold vaccuum from its own MAP sensor. It does a hell of a good job. :D

The motor that I have is a Formula I 2.0 EFI 85 or 86, I think. It has a 11350-A4. Could I update to newer ECU? As far as I know there is nothing wrong with the A4 ECU. And I do have extra parts, TPI module, TPI, temp sensors. Just wondering if this motor could be udated a bit.
Thanks Tim

post a new question about it and you'll get some responses.
