I was on the final leg of a motorcycle trip around Lake Erie yesterday and my route happened to take me by Checkmate Marine in Bucyrus OH. Rode by and thought what the hell and turned around to stop by their facility.

So here I am walking in with my leather jacket, boots saying I used to own a Checkmate and have a Hydrostream now, saw their facility and though I would stop by. Told them I posted on S&F and have seen the work Randy has done setting them up.

After Kip gets off of the phone he takes me on a tour of their facility. Several boats in process. Hulls without decks so I could see the lay-up and balsa core. Decks ready to be mated to the hull. He also showed me the how they do the in gel designs. Then off to the back to show me several boats ready to ship. I have to say the orange longdeck boat is a beauty. But overall all their boats look really sweet.

I have to tip my hat to Checkmate Marine for taking the time to give someone walking in off the street a tour of their facility.

Thanks Kip.

Bill, Kip and Mike are great people. They've always been helpful to Checkmate fans no matter how old your Checkmate might be. I can't tell you the number of times on Checkmate-boats.com that Kip had chimed in and helped a Checkmate owner with restoring or repairing a boat. Even though Checkmate is under new ownership, I believe the products will get even better. The last few weeks have seen some nice changes in graphic packages and interiors!

I agree. I've toured the factory twice, the second time I took a bunch of pix and wrote an article for this magazine. Nicest group of people. Hope to go back again some day.
