A heavy wash down with heavy mix of DAWN dish washing detergent, it will remove the wax!
If the surface is not glossy enough already, the wax won't be able to help it much. Gelcoat in particular sometimes has a fine haze to it that makes wax not come off as easily, particularly with certain colors. It probably needs a good wheel polishing with a coupe of stages of compound first, then a good wax or polymer "polish" to finish.
