I have recently bought a 22' Mako with a 200 Merc Optimax

When I run the boat over 3500 rpms it is holding point of compass but it is listing to the port badly. The boat sits properly in the water and runs well up to this rpm, as soon as I pass that, the whole boat banks to the left?

What is causing this

Are you trimming the engine up as speed comes up?
Is the engine still trimmed all the way down?
Keeping the engine trimmed down will cause this.

Also

Boat loaded incorrectly?
This could be equipment and people.

thanks for your repsonse,

I have looked at load, and the batteries are set evenly, fuel tank is center line and I am running solo. No other equipment to speak of.

I have played with trip but will try to play with it more, I do not think that is it, based on what I have tried. I am really baffled, could the wrong prop cause this? s friend mentioned the torque tab? I do not know what that is?

Is It The Correct Shaft Length For Boat ???? I Have Seen It All !

A mako has a very deep v. My quess is that once up on a plane, if everything is set in the center, the torque of the motor (prop trying to turn) causes it to list as less of the hull and strakes are making contact with the water. My center console does this too. I moved my batteries to the port side and it helped.

Get a decent set of trim tabs. My dad had a similar problem in his old boat. Tabs will keep the boat from listing, and help give a smoother all-around ride.

tabs will do the trick, but they only correct a problem, they do not address what caused it. They are also less efficient if you have to plow with one to keep the boat going level. just my 2 cents, but if you can get it balanced better, you will be better off in the long run.

If you have hydrofoils on your boat and one side happens to be broken that will make the boat bank to one side and the faster you go the worse it gets

There are many things that can cause this.
1. Check the trim tab on the outboard motor may need to be adjusted ( the one just above the prop)
2. take a strait edge such as a ruler/yard stick and check for a hook in the hull. go to the back of the boat and on the bottom of the hull put the strait edge check for a non flat bottom if you are leaning to the port side check the stbd. side
3. a unbalanced load
4. water trapped in the stringer system/water in the foam
