cheapest way to ship lower unit...

can you tell me the cheapest way to ship a lower unit. i have a stock mercury lower and i want to ship it 300 miles to bob's. i went to the UPS store and they told me it would be $160. does that sound right for 300 miles ? thanks

i shipped a 44 lb cyl head 2200 miles for $29 and a 77 lb transmission 1200 miles for $42

our music store has a FedEx Ground account, and they raped me $80 to ship a gearcase from MI to AL, and $80 again to ship another one to NJ. Maybe the box was a bit oversized.

Pyro's price is about the norm.

I Sold a 3.0L 20" Fleetmaster on ebay and it cost $70 from Detroit to South Carolina via FED EX Ground. I ship a lot of big stuff every day and FED EX Ground is usually cheaper than UPS or the Post Office.

I would not waste the time checking into freight. Shipped as freight strapped to a standard pallett for a 300 mile trip should range about $125-150. Just priced that yesterday.

from portland oregon to killen alabama... 56.00 ground.... 196.00 2 day air.... 215 Next day air.... its all about weight with ups.... a gear case with guts and shaft is about 60 lbs....... distance doesnt seem to matter much... as it is s45 bucks to ship across town from store to store for same weight..

I build and ship lowers here in Texas on a regular basis . I build my own shippin box out of 1x8 pine frame with a couple of trick dohickys inside to suspend the case and it does not flop around it takes 1- 8' and 1- 6' footer the i skin it with cardboard on the side's it cost about 16-18$ for material and take about an hour all total . the biggest deal is take it to a Fedex( my favorite ) or ups maned shipping center they are in everypart of town (FT worth) I just sent a 75 lb sporty box and all to Washington state 54.00 to ship to the east coast is a lot cheaper most place's in IL. 35.00 less when you take it to one of the little combo store you get hosed big time. i just one of my own boxs back somebody shipped another case to me in it small world:cool:

I used UPS to ship mine to Panama City about $60, got it back Fedex...looked like they dragged it instead of shipping it..:mad:
