Hey guys,
Another rookie question. :o What are the sizes of the "small shaft" verses the "large shaft" merc lower units. I want to buy a prop but I think must verify which I have first. Do you just measure the O.D. of the splines? Also, can a small shaft prop be rehubbed to be used on a large shaft and vise versa? ....if so, how much will that cost?

Thanks,
Steve

if your propshaft has a taper its a small shaft. with a 2.4, unless you swapped to a late model sportmaster, its going to be a small shaft.

I thought it was a small shaft but I didn't take the prop off yet. I just want to know what I'm looking at when I take it off.

Thanks,
Steve

if it's a 2.4 I would assume it's a small shaft.[unless lower unit has been replaced!!!]

Steve...don't go out and buy a prop...I am sure there is someone on the boards in your neck of the woods that would let you try various ones out. Also- check any local marina that deals with high perf. merc's. They might let you try a few. When you find one that accomplishes your goal then buy that one!

Just my 2 cents...

Hi guys,
I guess I will try around my neck of the woods and see if I can try a few props out first. I'm not sur how much luck I'll have but it's worth a try. Anybody who lives up in NH or VT have any suggestions on who to contact to try a few props? All info. appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Count the splines. 19 = 1 1/4" shaft, 15 = 1" shaft.
