Hey TONY,

I have a special place in my heart for those GM trucks...I would say they are the best pick-up truck ever made (87-99).

I don't off road with mine, but mine has never let me down in the 12 yrs of ownership.

KEEP on TRUCKIN and show us more pics!!

Boaterbum

What sice rime are those Swampers on? Ya getting rid of them? How worn? I have 16.5's on now, but want to go with 16" inch with the offroad tires, ya air down a 16.5" and you'll blow off the bead in a heartbeat!! They suck, really no 'step' for the bead to seat on! I can't go smaller than a 16" because of the HUGE brakes on the rear! 3/4 ton on that 14 bolt Corporate axel....
AnthonySS, glad ya likes, thanks! I will get more pics soon, as soon as the digital camera get returned, ro replaced, damn ex girlfriends!!!! $800.00 frikkin' dollors!!!!!!!!!! lol...

Swampers are on a 16inch rim. I can't put a 15 on my truck because of the callipers. About half tread. Trading for the 36 powerkings should pull a lot better in the sand!!1 Am going to post a pic as soon as I can

Boaterbum
05-07-2002, 11:38 AM
Sounds good, have you tried the Swampers in sand yet??? The ground hawgs will be worse in the mud, then again, ya don't do much mud runnin', so don't worry about it! I had some WORN out, (read, BALD CENTERS!) they called em' drag slick swampers, had them on, excellent in the sand! they were 36"x12.5-16.5,
had 42" Hawgs on my old truck, they weren't as good in mud though! Ido a LARGE mix of offroading though, from rivers, to Mud bogs, to sand runnin', including the ever so soft sugar sand in the Michigan sand dunes!
Anyway, can't find that damn pic of mt truck completed witht he skid plate! damnit!!!!!!!

Here is my 1989 Z71 which I just sold 3"Magnaflow dual exhaust and 285 BFG's. Got a dog and both the dog and Wife couldn't fit in the truck at the same time so unfortunately the truck had to go. Hope to get a ZR2 Highrider xtended cab within the next year!

Tony,

Yes they do use Road Salt here...The side shown in the pics isthe good side. Curb Side has a few holes in the lower rocker below rear quarter window. That were they all rust.

Also getting some paint bubbling at tops of rear fender well at trim rings...Again this is a typical corrosion area on these trucks...cant' complain for the age of it! If you look real close on passenger side you can see some corrioson starting again at rear quarter rocker

I just had a quote to get that work done...so should look new again...soon.

The Dynomax tone is not much different then stock. However they do get louder over age...Not that much more. I like the system and it is barely noticeable at Highway speeds. I appreciate that over long hauls!

THANKS for the positive comment on the guitar too!!

YEAH...I might know the guy in the pics:D

BRENT...YES I remember your truck ..it was nice too!!

Boaterbum,
Try bonding on the replacement rocker panels. I did it on my Z71 cab corners before I sold the truck. It was a lot easier than welding! There are quite a few different brands of metal bonding adhesives available. I will be doing the same on the rear quarters on my 5.0 Mustang in the near future.

'95 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4, PST performance torque plate, 36" glass pack muffler, K&N air filter, posi rear, big winch bumper w/ a 10,000# Warn winch. Over 217,000 hard miles. I work out of it.

Cannot say it is perfect, but it only left me stranded once, my fault trying to make it to the house...:o

Still gets over 20 mph with the dog house on it! I take it off during the summer. Just got new scrims for it!:D

The ol toy has about 20inches of travel in the front and just shy of that in the rear. Its not maxed out in the pic was just out playin around with AQUAHOLIC one afternoon. the specs go somethn like this: Solid axle swap, 3in custom lift, 38in superswamper sx, lots o fender triming, dual transfer cases, lockers front /rear, and lots of little stuff I cant think of. I know what you mean about the not your think though cuz I avoid the mud like it was the plaqe.:D ;) :D You know what happens after you play in the mud??!!?? You have to wash the damn truck:eek: and Im just way to lazy for that LOL:D  You got any pics of the pre-runner project? that would be so much fun!!!Id build one if I had someplace to take it and beat it!! Hey Boaterbum, I just went back and reread your posts. You can fit 15" wheels on your truck with very little work. All you need to do is get you a rim with 3.5" back spacing and mildly grind on the front calipers and bingo 15" rims on a 3/4ton. I have a bunch of friends that have done this for the same reason you want to 16.5s wont hold a bead when aired down. It really isnt as scary as it sounds, all you need is 4" grinder and about and hour of your time.

Later CJ

Boaterbum
05-22-2002, 08:32 AM
Seriously? I was gonna do the 16", but 15's would spread out the tire more, right? As for the grinding, thats no big deal, that rear drum,(massive) will fit into a 15" rim? and they make 15" in 8 lug, right? thanks for the info, I will keep that in mind when Ordering the new set!
Catch ya later,
~Tony~

I hear ya there with the mud bit! I have a ladie friend that loves to go, and offered to wash it for me, did that, well, they neverdo a job that is up to 'out standards', ya know?!??! Thats why it's been a few monthes since I hit the trails! hahaha Just too damn lazy to clean her again! hahaha

Oh yea, will get the digital camera out when I am out next with the prerunner build up... last weekend, all it was is the frame, well, what was left of the TOY after 12 years of wisconsin winters, the whole rear was rotted out pretty badly! But, we have the fron half of the frame, sitting on jackstands, all stripped down!! doesn't look like much of a truck yet! hahaha will try to keep up on 'progression photos' though!

CJ

Boaterbum, Yes the 15" wheel should give the tire a bigger footprint. I like it in the rocks because it gives more sidewall flex. the key to making them fit is the 3.5" backspacing . you might be able to get away with 3.75" but you will have to do alot more grinding on the calipers and you will have to grind the fins on the rear drums. With 3.5" the rear shoud bolt right up.

Later CJ

Balzy

I just posted a pile under the tow truck thread so I waited. But you know me, couldn't resist.

Boaterbum
05-23-2002, 01:01 AM
How much of a difference in 'footprint' would it make with 16" wheels? Or is that more in the wheel diameter? I don't do ANY rock climbing, without the straight axle up front, I'd be on my roof in no time! I don't need the sidewall flex as much...... I mostly do muddin' and sand running out in Michigan, thats hwere I'll need to air WAY down! soft suger sand, what a B*T*H!!!!
Anyway, I also drive it most of the time, so don't want tyres sticking out too far, I have enough 'smokies' staring me down from past occurances, don't want to give them any more to pick on me with!
Well, take it easy,
~Tony~

Hey Boaterbum- 16 in rims will stick the tire up underneath the fenderwell more which will let you pull a lot better the wide tires don't pull as good they just look a litlle better

Just went through whole truck last winter. Rebuilt trans, front end, installed lockers in both diffs, B&M shifter.
Details on 351W Ported heads with triple angle valve job, valve springs, Comp Cam, Holley Street Dominator intake, Barry Grant carb, K&N air filter, Ford shorty headers & Flowmaster Muffs.
It's still a good driver lots of torque but feels like a drag car when you hit the throttle & still gets 15 MPG( when you drive it real easy
