I got the 'Shot back in the water this weekend, and WOW, what a difference !!

THE BOUNCE IS GONE !!!:D :D :D :)

I guess all the flexing was causing the bounce.

New core, a couple more layers of glass, and TWO stringers instead of the one, and the boat is a joy to drive now.

It seems like I lost 2 MPH, but that may be due to warmer air, (its been a month since I had it out).

Also could be the pad needs to be tuned a little, I need to put a straight edge on it to see.

Now back to the 'Stream..................maybe when I have it finished, the bounce will be gone from her too.

It was a good weekend, wasn't it!! Maybe now that it rides so much better you can get out on the river before 3 in the afternoon!!

Before the fix, blowover seemed to be in the very back of my mind.........now it seems like it FEELS like it could be more blowover proned.

I know of one thing to put into my "don't try that again" list of things............

Joe and Braxton were side by side at, maybe 65-70 MPH, and I decided to shoot in between them, (we play like that some), and as I got to the rear of the two boats, I caught the air off of both boats and thought I was gonna go past them in the air, (or upside down).....It made me think of the pic of Reggie Fountain (in the tunnel) with two or three boats flipping all together.

Glad you got her worked out.I ran a 14.5x30 mazco cleaver with a stock 200 carb to 101 mph @7200 rpm's.Engine 3/4" above the pad w/6"setback.I could have raised the motor and or ran a 32 cleaver and I have no doubt I would have been real close to 110 mph.Give it a try.:)

I've got a nice light 32 cleaver that I'm gonna take out for John to run one of these days.

Oh yea, I saw where you had done that, and that is what I want to do, if only one time, just to say it has been 100 MPH.

The motor that came on my 'Shot, (stock 2.4 with steel reeds and 150 psi heads) ran 95.9 with that crappy Trophy, so, with that motor, and a good bottom, and the right prop could have gone 100 MPH.

NEWS FLASH !!!

Just got a text .........

Joe Downing , (joed), just went 110 in his new Quartershot, with the brand new Soddy Daisy 32 pitch prop.

He said 50 MPH at 3500 RPM

and 90 MPH at 5000 RPM

Sounds like that is a prop I need to try out.........(or his old 30 ET) (again)

Do you run a 15 or 20 inch motor? If its a 20, how far above the pad are you running the point of lower?I got mine a 1/2 inch and need too come up more.I got a 28 cleaver and a 28 performance i've tryed so far.It starts the hop around 70-80, and havent been thru it yet.

I didnt experience a hop with the new model like mine was.I think that a lot of hop issues come from balance of weight in the boat.I meen some boats are heavyer than others and so are the drivers.Battery, trim pump and fuel tank placement as well as amount of setback are key in the proper balance of each particular boat.My boat was light and little setback and I weigh 233 lbs now I was 250 when I made those numbers(101).You might want to slide the fuel tank and batterys forward. This may help and it may not.Mine felt great at that weight and my heavy but up front.Didnt feel I neede to change anything else except engine hight.

The 2 mph was probably lost with the warmer weather & added weight to the boat during the reconstruction.

Joe runs a 3 liter. Stock boxes. I talked to him yesterday when he was out on the river. The new 32 from Soddy Daisy was what the boat needed. I'm going out with him tomorrow, I'll post some pics and more info then.

Was it the four blade "DRAG FOUR"? That's what I use on the 21 Liberators.

It is a 3 blade Performer-32 pitch, his gear is 1.62 (?) does that sound right?

He had the gears changed in the case.

Skeeter,

I have my propshaft kinda low now, (still haven't changed it since I was trying to fight the bounce)

It is about 1/2" below now.

Felt good level with the pad, and got my 95.9 MPH at about 1/4 to 1/2 above.

Now that I have the bottom fixed, I will have to start all over again, but it still feel 100% better now than with the flexing bottom.

Those Performers 3 Blades are kick-ass props. Had a 30 that was awesome. Would love to try a 32.:D Chuck

Fixing the bottom has also given me more gas milage too.

I went from around 3-1/2 MPG to 4-1/4 MPG:eek: :)

how can you tell what your mpg is?I meen the speeds usualy vary when running these boats on the river.Just curious how you fugured the mpg to be accurate.

WATERWINGS
05-14-2007, 02:03 PM
Gallons used vs/miles I have gone, (on GPS)

Is that what you are asking?

I don't do much WFO running, so I feel like it should be pretty accurate for just cruising.

WATERWINGS

I got as much a 5-1/4 MPG this weekend........(from as low as 3-1/2 before the repair.)

It might be that now I don't have to BLAST thru the bouncing speeds, and can cruise at 55 or 65 without bouncing.

I guess if yun about the same and it shows that much higher than it must be close.:)
