Trim Tab in my way

I have a friend who wants to take off his trim tab and block it off with a plate, or just grind a good bit out of it.
Does anyone run without a trim tab? What will happen if he takes it off and doesnt cover the cavity?

He will be using a surfacing propeller. On an Evinrude.

Most high rake props will not clear the little trim tab. Most people I know (including me) run with out anything in the hole. You might want the flat plate if you run in salt or brackish water.

Yeah, I notice there is a little pee-hole in the tab. Whats that for?

trim tab only helps relieve steering torque,don't need it!
