I hit 88 several times earlier today, turning 7100-7200 at 1/4" below. After burning up some fuel and raising the motor again, I ran it over some wind-whipped chop on the way back to the launch ramp, trying to hug the windward shoreline, fighting a gusty crosswind. It didn't even feel that fast. It felt like it was bogging a little, so I let off without even looking at the tach, I may have actually bumped the PCU's limiter, which I currently have set to 7500. Recall said 92.5, wow.

5" setback, Merc 30p Lab Cleaver, "even" with the pad. Full interior, speakers, anchor, mooring poles, and 1/4 tank. This is a blast...

70 degree weather. Maybe next time out I'll shed the back seat, speakers, and anchor. Everything else is in the zone. Weight is the main limiting factor now. Earlier, I crossed some slow pontoon rollers out in the middle of the lake at 85 mph, and i could feel how easily the length of the hull "wetted" as the chop grabbed it and slowed it down. The Cleaver doesn't offer any real bow lift, so it's up to aerodynamic force and stern lift. These hulls love to run flat like this, I've said it before...

sounds good:D did you ever try a ET:confused:

Yep, this is the same motor. Thanks John. It runs good now that the primary timing isn't retarded 20 degrees ATDC like it was when I took it home  The PCU helps too.

If used ET's ever get cheap enough to afford or I come across a really good deal, I would love to try one. I just can't justify spending $500 on a prop.

going fast rules!!

Glad you got it running that fast.

Vegas was my first ride in a fast boat YEARS ago, almost the exact color scheme you have. I think it was a Vegas V though, not sure......Awesome regardless.

nice numbers, while I like the ET I still think a cleaver gives you better top speed,if you can turn it!

I noticed you are running a bridgeport, what ecu are you using?I`m in the middle of building my first bridgeport motor.I just bought a horn.reed plate, injectors, harness and analog ecu.If the funds will allow I will get a digital ecu.

As mentioned above, it's a Brucato PCU, with stock fuel curve from Tony and steamwheel set at zero so far. I haven't even read the plugs yet, all six piston tops still have some wet carbon showing from last year, after a few runs. It starts easy, idles all around the lake at 850 rpm without smoking, loading, or fouling, then gets up and goes on command.

Don't bother with the digital upgrade unless you get a PCU. There's nothing quite like it, and I've only had a taste so far...

I have a mid 90's vintage 26 et or a 32 lab cleaver flo-torq you can try ? Was the testing @ Wamplers ?.................

Pete, the testing was going on at my "home pond", 640-acre Loch Erin, 5 minutes south of Wamplers. Are you coming to the MHB gathering on May 19th? I'd love to try those props... :D

I think I'll shed 100 lbs of accessories and switch over to Alisyn oil for next weekend, let all hell break loose. 95 sounds like a possibility...

Well if you come of the wallet a bit and spend a few extra dollars you just might get a few mph by just buying a good prop.$500 is by no meens a lot of money for a prop. Its about the average price for a good used wheel.Use the $200 you saved by driving slow and turning you car motor off at long lights to save fuel like you told us you do and get a better prop.:D

how much speed did you pick up with that camera?

pyro
05-01-2007, 05:00 PM
3 mph :D

I've always been into photography, but never could afford a decent camera until now. It's a big priority for me. Right now, the boat almost goes faster than I care to drive it...

Cleaver Pyro?????/???

That is proof that a Vegas XT doesn't need big setback, prop cupping or bowlift to make a solo top end pass. Happy Christmas to me, I got ahold of that prop over the winter. It's in pristine condition, I couldn't pass it up. It relies mostly on the hull's aero lift to keep it up on the pad, it runs flat and fast. I have not yet tested it against the Mazco RE3 at this motor height.

When I watched Dan Dillman's Vegas XT last summer @ Belleville he needed alot of trim to get the boat to run in the 90's. It almost seemed he needed more set back. I ran on my valero yt a 6" CMC which was fine.
Do a advanced search under his name to get more specifics.......I think he was running a 225 xri with hot heads.... and a round ear.....

Maybe he had some pad issues ????
Havent made my mind up on Wamplers in May.......

The photo in my signature is an extra-cupped big-ear 24p chopper trimmed to the moon, punching it from about 55 mph for the camera. This is what people are always trying to do with the XT's for top end, and I keep saying they'll run faster and more stable with a flat attitude and some stern lift to unwet the rear end, where all the real hydrodynamic drag tends to occur. The nose of the deck surface actually looks like it's pointing downhill when it's "in the zone."

This hull is just plain LOOSE with the cleaver. It's stable, but VERY touchy, small gusts of wind really scoot it around at speed, and small waves catch the hull and slow it down easily.
