Anyone out there have one of those new Hydrostream Voyagers 2003 (I think) or newer? If not, anyone been in one? The family got a little bigger over the winter and I don't want to find the V-King just sits there becuase it's a little small. The new Voyager looks OK to me and it certainly looks like it has the room I need, so I'm thinking about moving to a larger boat.
If anyone has one or has been in one, please post your opinions as well as any relevant rigging details.
Just trying to have it all ... a family and performance boating!!
Thanks in advance.

I had a nice ride on Rice Lake in an old Voyager last fall. Perfect for you, as John Spaeth builds the original style near you. Old style shape with state of the art materials and construction.
The Voyager is a lot roomier than your VKing.
The only thing I didn't like was the lack of sensation of speed. At 60, the windshield worked so well I could wear my cap, and the boat was stable. I like a bit more wind than that, and some dancing. More HP would solve the lack of speed sensation.

Thanks for the response David.
I know John Spaeth ... he built my V-King and he does a really nice job makin' boats. Just wondering what people think of the new ones before I make a move on the classic style.
I have a 2003 Voyager XT with a 225efi. I primarily use it for waterskiing. I use a 24” pitch Trophy for skiing and can go 71 mph before hitting the low rev limiter on the 225efi. I use a 27” Tempest for speed runs and can go 77 mph, but I still hit the rev limiter. You have to play with the setup in order to enjoy it for waterskiing and wakeboarding speeds. Fat sacs up front help to minimize the porpoising at speeds below 36 mph. Overall I’ve really enjoyed the boat and if you enjoy going fast and waterskiing; it’s the perfect boat. Craig

i prefer the older style for the front seating. it has full lounges where the new style seams to have modified the th std seat. i have never actually been in the newer one.

I have an '06 vegas, same hull with a different top. I have had one problem after another. picked up the boat at the factory in Tn. on the first trip out the oil alrm kept going off. I was told at delivery the tested the boat and it was perfect. I found the oil lines were to long so someone used a wire tie to secure them and pinched off the flow(I needed a mirror to find that) also, no washers on engine to jack plate bolts on engine side.
after the second time out I noticed the jack plate bolts on the bottom loose. I had to remove the fuel tank, only to find no washers on the bottom bolts, W.T.F. I also found a bunch of screws had fallen out of hear and there and went under tank. after a few more trips out the inside trim
started loosening up, found no lock washers or liquid locking agents on threads. also the nuts attaching the studs (the kind you bang into a hole and they grip) were installed on the wrong side. jack plate relays installed upside down (they fill with water that way) and then the real trouble started. the drivers seat floor broke (I have the floor out right now) because there is nothing supporting under it except on the left side were the floor intersects the hull (same floor and hull as what your looking at, I know because they filled in the ski locker part. the stringers, only two, run half way forward from the rear then end, with a slight sister type joint two more run forward from there. I could keep writing, but I hope you got the hint!

Wildfire 1, I am sorry to hear the issues with your boat. Have you contacted the company? I have an 07 Voyager. Had some issues with the oil alarm. Merc dealer fixed it. Low oil in the engine reserve. I love the boat. 28 4 blade TXP by turbo skis, flies, turns on a dime with attention to trim. I have an hydraulic jack plate, adjust the engine height on plane to stop porposing. Black Diamond Marine/ Viper Custom build the boats in Maryville TN.

Smart people learn from their mistakes, but a genius learns from others, learn at my expense, please!

WIldfire, Have you contacted the company or Jim Conzten? I assume you bought factory direct, so there is not local dealer you can have address these issues.

If they offered me a new hull, i would not take it. I would rather fix right
what I have. The overall hull design is not bad, it's the way they assemble it. Like they just do not understand how boats work. loads, stresses.
If I had only used it on a smooth river I may have never known the differance. I'm about half done now. Just to many things done wrong to list. If I ever get another Hydrostream, it will be circa 1980.

they all [years] have probems. i bought a xstream voyager that must have been built on a monday after a holiday. stringers were 1" out side the grooves, no resin on the inside of the stringe box under the motor well..... my advise is to buy used and fix the thing. there fast and certified ski rig. HS never put the stickers on the voyagers but it did pass the Water ski cert.[ps without the fins]
