Hi everyone. I have been lurking here for sometime. Drooling at many of the boats here. Pretty awesome compared to my little 1975 15.5' Checkmate V-Mate I with a 115 Johnson.
Question:
The power trim, original OMC equipment with the boat. It still works but the engine will not stay up, it drifts down in no time. I figure it needs fluid added. Problem is the plug on the side of the cylinder is frozen so I can get it out to fill it.
Any ideas on how to remove the plug. Or would a new power trim be more reasonable to consider? If so what brands and $$.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Try an impact driver, don't hit it too hard to remove the plug. I'm supposing you have a between the clamp bracket trim? Make sure the manual relief valve is all the way in. You probably either have a stuck/ leaky check valve or some corrosion on the tilt relief valve or torn o ring. If the addition of trim fluid, dextron tranny fluid, doesn't cure it try removing the manual tilt valve. Remove the spring c clip first. Hold a rag over the valve to control the fluid and make sure the motor is supported or trimmed down. Check the o rings. You may be able to get a used unit pretty cheap if necessary.

The hydraulic cylinder is right of the mounts and 1/2 inch away form the transom. I had thought of trying an impact driver and blocking between the transom and cylinder so it won’t put to much stress on the mounts.
I plan to get the boat out tomorrow. First order of business is trying to get this resolved. Thanks for the tips.

It is more than likely a check valve in the pump. If you have the original trim for that motor you will have to find the problem or replace it with a trim setup like CMC makes because I don't think OMC has the parts for yours anymore. If you get a hold of Rickracer he may have a line on some aftermarket parts for it. you only have to worry about the cylinder closest to the pump because the other is just the trim gauge sender.

Ok, you have tyhe trim with the wings mounting. If the unit tilts up and down but won't stay up trash is probably your problem. You may be able to flush the trash out changing the fluid.
