300 promax/300x tricky question need real answer

Will a 300 promax powerhead 1999/2000 bolt directly onto a 2001-2005 300 promax x minus the powerhead. I have been told no. Has anyone out there done this. The midsection looks the same and I would assume the exhaust would be the same.

i have 1 2000 mid with a 300 and a 2002 mid with a 300 2002 only has 300x so i dont know what they are saying

I have also heard no, but if you swapped the tuner/adaptor around it should.
