View Full Version : Cee Bee Avenger 15 handling
If i went to dual steering and solid mounts on my 150 inline would that help the handling of my boat?It is almost uncontrollable over 50 mph. What about manual trim tabs? Its a semi v hull and it chine walks badly and i cant counter steer it because there is so much torque on the wheel i cant turn it.Its pretty scary over 50.I would like to give the boat another chance before i look for something else.I really like the boat but i think the set up is way off. Thanks

Bob, How high is the engine set? A torque tab might help with the counter steering. You should get solid mounts and dual steering. I run my steering pretty tight and you will love the way your whole boat rattles runnin a inline with solid mounts.:D

I have the same Avenger you have and have ran it with a 15" 1500XS and a 20" late 115. Both motors are bone stock with rubber mounts and single ride guide steering. Both were bolted straight to the transom. The boat handles with out problem up in to the mid 60's with the 1500XS, and a real solid 60 with the 115. I did run another Avenger with some old performance propeller a long time ago and it was so bad I nearly ripped the motor off the back. With that said, what are you using for a propeller? Next, if I remember right you have a jackplate on your boat. Jackplates are not always the hot setup, especially on smaller boats.
Thanks guys.I have a 5 inch setback jacked to the moon with a 22p chopper prop.I was thinking of taking the setback off and running it on the transom. How high were you running the 115 on it?Thanks

Both motors bolted right on the back of the boat. The XS was fairly high, and I could not pull a skier. The 115 will pull your arms out. There is very little steering torque and I use a filler plug in the trim tab.

I had the same boat. I ran a xflo 140, tried with and without a jackplate. Imo much better w/ 4in setback. That boat has a very narrow pad, and keeping it balanced is difficult w/ the best setup. Dual cable and solids are a must, a torque tab will help. It's a fun boat but not really designed for much over 60mph. What rpm can you turn that chopper and what speeds?

I have spun a 26 chopper at 6200 rpms that was about 61 on gps and i had my hands full:D

That's about what mine would run, about 60. No one had gps back when I had mine. I saw 70 on my lying speedometer but I was'nt even close. Those boats are only rated for 90hp, around 50-55mph so it's really more of a ski boat than a pure speed boat. The pad size makes it unstable at higher speeds. However, they are very well built boats and will last forever, I miss mine!
