Looking for some thoughts on the Velocity 22 as opposed to the 21 Shadow/Superboat/Rally Sport/ or any of the other versions of the Challenger design.

The Velocity 22 has tons of room and from the work I have done on mine it looks to be a well made boat .I have sat in a 21 - Challenger but not ridden in one .

The velocitys have a wider pad than a challenger derived hull.
I bellieve its 10inches.

The Velocity 22's pad is 12" wide, the Challengers pad is 6" wide.

Velocity all the way. Great bottom design, blast to drive, will keep you on your toes at speed, turns on rails, proven race winner!

My 2004 Velocity with 300x is for sale, however I am on the west coast. They are great boats and can run with the big boys. (27-29 Fountains and such) It will be listed here in a day or two.

I like the Velocity. The Steve Step non-regal built boats are high quality boats. From what I have seen of the Superboats are also very well built. I would also add the 21 Apache to the list of high quality boats in that range.
The wider pad on the velocity should make it a few ticks faster. IMO if the Velocity had a little less beam it would be perfect. Any of the above would be a good choice.
The Intimidator that advertises on this site also looks like a great boat but I do not know anything about them. If I was lookinmg for this type of boat I would also check them out.

I have an early Regal Velocity, done when Steve Stepp was still working for them. Supaboatmillenium is right, the pad is wider. As a result, I think the boat rides harder in a chop then the Superboat / Challenger hull. It also has a hook in the back that makes the boat ride very level - better ride, but a little less speed. This can be overcome by removing it and / or adding setback.
The Regal V22 is heavier than the Stepp V22 due to a small cuddy. With a basically stock 200, mine runs 62-65 pretty consistently. I think the Superboats are slightly faster than the Regal V22 with the same motor.
I use mine on an exceptionally rough lake. Bouncy, but very dry, and lots of fun.
Tom Foley and AmityRay have 300PMs for power, I'm sure they can chime in on their performance. Good luck!
