View Full Version : Firing Order L-6 Merc 1500?

I recently purchased a 1974 Merc 1500. Unfortunately the distributer cap was removed from the engine (all wires pulled from the cap).

I could not see any firing order info on the engine, so purchased a SELOC manual. Oddly enough this manual does not provide firing order either.

Do any of you know the firing order of this engine? #1 cylinder, is this the top one?

Thanks and Regards,

I can't remember the order off the top of my head, but the top cyl is #1 and the firing order is on the water jacket cover which is the cover on the back of the block surrounding the sparkplugs that looks like a cyl head.

Thanks Guys!

For the near term I cant spin the engine to determine distributor rotation. Looking down on the distributor from the cap direction (or looking up when it is installed). Does it spin clockwise or counterclockwise?

Hope you all have a great weekend.

I got it sorted out once I could get a better look at it. Thanks for the help.
