Well, I just sold my Suzuki GSX-R750, and I already have the bug for a new bike. I've always been partial to Suzuki, so I was looking at the GSX-R 600 and 750. But, the Yamaha R6 has me curious too. I'm pretty sure it will be the Suzuki though, always liked 'em.

Frank Mole, I know you have some input on this :)

Those are awesome, but it's too much bike for me. I've taken a 750 on the track several times and my skill level isn't even up to that yet. Most guys say, "Dude, why didn't you get the 1100?" I'd love to see those talkers actually ride on a real track instead of straight-line, light-to-light that I see them do on the street. Please. LOL! :)

The R6 is a consideration. I have to ride one first to see. I wasn't crazy about the head tube angle on the older ones, so if hasn't changed, I may not get it. I haven't looked into the frame geometry yet.

I hate to agree with Mr. Clean but go with the 1098, however I'm a bit prejudice (I should have mine by june). Scott :D

I got 900 (special 900…;) ) and I love new liter bikes, but 750 is more than enough, and if you know what you doing on the track 1000 will have difficulty keeping up with you unless it’s highly skilled professional riding 1000.
So I say go for 750, 600’s just have no torque.

Most of todays bike are beyond the capabilitys of the average rider . I would try and ride the ones your thinking of ,and go with which ever fits you best . If it not comfortable ,you will not ride it . That's why I ride a 1200 Bandit , I'm fat and don't fit the others . Rich Martin 018:cool:

I haven't been on the newer GSX-R 600 but the older ones were too cramped for me and I'm about 6'1" +/- I would definitely ride all of them before buying. I'm with oldschoolltv, don't forget about the Honda. I had a CBR600 F2, and at the time it was the fastest of the major four (Suz, Yam, Kaw, & Honda) and the best all around 600.

Hey Greg,
A friend of mine has a PERFECT 2006 GSXR 600 with 912 miles on it that he has to sell. I think he wants around $6500.00 for it. P.M. me or call me if you are interested. It is black and grey and like I said, pretty much brand new. Later, Dave

Can't go wrong with the 750. Nice bike and a bit more motor.

Wow... I thought you were a confirmed Suzuki man...? I've ridden the (new) R6 and the GSXR (600). Although I suspect their ultimate limits are rather similar, they feel pretty different doing it. The Yamaha feels like a smaller bike -- it doesn't really feel like anything I've ever ridden before. Although it makes really good power on top, it's a bit "fluffy" in the midrange. If you want to go fast (motor wise), it's going to make you work for it. I've heard that a Power Commander will work wonders on them, but I have no first-hand experience with that. The Suzuki feels like a Suzuki. Stupid statement, I know, but somehow they always feel like that. If you've ridden any GSXR from '96 forward, you'll comfortable on this one. I've never been a GSXR guy -- mostly because I had a '93 750 that was the biggest pig ever -- but I can't say anything bad about the new one. In my opinion, it's a better streetbike that the Yamaha if only due to the fact that it doesn't have that ridiculous roadracing transmission. Why Yamaha thinks you need a 80-85 mph 1st gear in a 600cc streetbike, I'll never know.

As far as the GSXR 750 goes.. If I was going to buy a GSXR, that would be it. I haven't been on a new one, but I rode an '04. Just my opinion, but I think you get your money's worth when you drop the extra $$$ on the 750 over the 600. I can't say the same for the 1000.. Just too much for the street.

I saw Eddie Lawson quoted a few years ago.... He said something to the effect of... "There might be somebody that can ride an R1 to it's limits on the street, but it isn't me...."

That sorta says it all..

I don't really know what you're looking for in a bike, but you might want to try to mooch a ride on a new R6 before you plunk down your hard-earned money. Those things are pretty hard-edged for a streetbike.

I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you get..

the average street rider wont be able to tell the 600 to the 750. in a corner depending on your size you can man handle the 600 more than the 750 and the 600 not much but revs quicker. good luck on your choice. if your going riding give a call I'm in ft myers.I've got an R1..

Damn, my first post on a boat forum is gonna be about bikes. LOL.

As of now, I still dont trust the throttle on the 06 and newer R6. It has a servo instead of cables, or at least the cables dont go all the way to the throttle bodies. I know of one localy that failed wide open. Rider died. Back in 03 a MotoGP rider (Kato) was killed on the Repsol Honda due to a servo failure. Rossi himself started cutting the wired on his so his techs had to go back to cables. If he dont trust it, I dont either. Other than that, I hate Yami transmissions. Soft metal, rounds shift dogs bad. Get them undercut and hardened and you are fine, but the labor on that is over a grand. I charge $400 in labor on a tranny to swap new stuff in, and 5-600 for the undercut and hardening. With the Gixxers, 750 has a little more midrange and top end than the 600. Weight and handling are about the same. Personaly, I slide the back on the track and like the way a 1000 does it better. I instruct at a track school, and do a little racing, and Ive ridden about everything around the track and know what I like. Comes down to what you like the feel of though. For the street, I like 1000's because of the torque. Where 600's are dropping gears, I just roll on the throttle. But, I dont act crazy on the street. Streets are used for one wheel action, and some cruising, everything else is on the track with me. Out of the bikes mentioned, R7 is rare and underpowered and way overpriced. R6 makes more power and is lighter. 1098 is awsome, but I hope you do your own work on it. And change the cam belts every 6000 miles or less. Hardparts arent cheap. R6, dont trust the throttle. Out of the Gixxers, choose what you want to pay. My 03 1000 has 128,000 miles on the original clutch. People tell me about Honda quality, but my bike has been stunted, raced, done trackdays and still runs like a top. Show me a Honda with the same milage and I will look it over. Althoug I have a friend with a 954 that is over 70,000 miles, he had to replace the head at 60,000 due to worn valve seats. I would say get the 750 as an all around good bike, or the 600 if you are wanting to do some trackdays as the 750 spins up easier. But, its hard to go wrong with any new bike. They are all good.

Greg,

Yesterday a former student dropped by to show me his new GSXR600. What a beautiful bike. He has been racing an R6 up to now and finds the Suzuki a superior bike, although he has yet to run it at the track. If you would like to talk to him, PM me and I will get you in touch with him. He is a nice young fellow and would be glad to chat about bikes and racing.

I am very partial to Honda. My 600rr has been track/street tortured and only had to buy gas, oil, and tires with 9600 miles (very little easy riding). My friends 954rr is the same way. All of our fellow riders have Suzuki's and have to tinker periodically. They are tempermental with age. You can't go wrong with any of them honestly. A new 600rr and 1000rr are the best bike for my money. Just my 2 cents.

Also, all new Yamaha's I have rode (4-R6's, 3-R1's)are very jerky on low on-off throttle transitions below approx 6000rpm. This makes for lowsy traffic ability.
