I made post a while ago about putting 78' 175hp 2.0 power head on my 85' 150xr2 2.0 mid and lower....

I purchased the powerhead, but i have some question before i attempt to do this..

-Will i need to change anyting out???

-Will i my trim work, will i have to add new solenoids with it being 78' powerhead??

-What gasket will i need to change out( exhaust plate???)

If there is anything else please let me know, Im a auto technician so I'm familiar with motor and how they work jsut never messed with 2 strokes

I swapped a 200 powerhead for a Bridgeport EFI, and kept the trim solenoids, mounted them on the new powerhead like this:

With just a powerhead swap you shouldn't have to do anything with the TNT. The early 2.0 175's had the VERY large exhaust ports on the housing and exhaust adapter. You should be able to run the XR-2 gasket without any problems. Shouldn't affect your power much, if any.

Does your 1750 powerheard come with the upper and lower plates that sandwich the mounts? If it does, my guess is it would sit on top of your XR2 mid fine. If you have just the powerhead then I think you will need the adapter paltes. As mentioned, the 1750 had the large exhaust ports. I don't think you could just drop a 1750 powerhead on a set of XR2 adapter plates. Here's a pic of a 2.4 plate versus my 1750 plate on the right. If I'm wrong, please somebody correct me..

When you pull off the XR2 you'll be looking at an exhaust plate/adapter that resembles the one on the left in that photo. The 1750 uses the one on the right. It will bolt on, but you end up with a pretty good mismatch of the exhaust ports.

The 175 block and exhaust divider are different from the 150 XR2. So to answer your question the 175 with out the 175 exhaust divider won,t work. Gaskets are different.
