the 250xs lists the max rpm range as 5800-6300 on merc's site, but I could not find the tech breakdown for the pro, just an article announcing the motor.

This is the first year of the 250ProXS. The 250ProXS and 250XS are different engines. Basically the same powerplant, just the 250ProXS comes from the consumer side with better warranty, but softer mounts, less gearcase options, and the lower rev limit.

actually, the 250xs and proxs both have solid mounts (the 225 proxs has the softer mounts).

the 250xs is now only really available with a sportmaster or in heavy duty offshore 25-30" midsections.

I just bought a new 250xs today with a 20" mid 1.62 Torquemaster. It is also available in Sportmaster. The proxs is only available with a Torquemaster

ok, lemme rephrase... the 250xs comes in the "speciality" gearcases, with the odball ratios, and sportmasters

after tackle and more gear i can feel the difference getting on step and at cruse . i alos lost 3mph on top end , iwas thinking of rasing up the engine see if that will help

MINE are 25 inch shaft on a 6000 lb + boat , i went down in pitch and it did rev to 6100 but it did not seem happy ,higher rpms . slower , burn lots more fuel sound s and runs better with the current prop .
