Rebuilding the carbs on my '79 Johnny 175.Don't have the proper float height guage. Is there another way to set the float properly?Any suggestions for the rebuild that the manual doesn't mention?Thanks!!B.T.

Turn the carb upside down with the needle/ seat/ float installed. The bottom of the float should be level and parellel with the body of the carb. Clean ALL passages and orifices with carb cleaner, don't use anything to clean jets that can enlarge the orifice. Seal the plugs with gasola or fingernail polish.

Jeff-THANKS !Took it apart and Ican see what you mean. Can I just eyeball it or is there abetter way to measure?Sweet looking ALLY by the way. thanks again for your timeBT p.s.What the heck is gasola?? ....Since I'm pick'n yer brains ..on the intake passages I see lots of roughness i.e.' casting flashes' .Are there any noticable gains to be had by smoothing them out? Thanks again..U guys r the best! BT

It's a type of sealer that is highly resistant to oil and gasoline.

Your Johnson/ Evinrude dealer can get it for you. OMC made a guage but mine has been hanging on the board for 20 years, never use it, eyeball is OK.
As long as the main bore is smooth.
