Last year I bought a Ultimate Warlock 25SXT Cat. It has twin 250 EFI Merc outboards on it. This is my first twin engine boat and first cat. So far I am loving it. I have one thing going through my mind when I hit 90 plus. What will it be like when one engine suddenly cuts out? Will there be time to back off the throttle or will I go into a sharp turn? Anyone have experience with this? I imagine when the engines are close together on a V-bottom it wouldn't be too bad. They are far apart on the cats.

I had a Warlock 25 rxt and lost a motor at around 85. It definitely got my attention. It just pulled REAL hard to the left. I never felt like I was going to lose it or anything. It really woke me up. Stuff can obviously happen real fast. It only happened once, but thats my experience. Later, Dave

if you are going to take a nap or get comfy at that speed then it will catch you before you react, i had my tie bar fall off at 65 mph pulled real hard right but at 65 i was not spooked, but 1 hour prior to this we were going 100+ so i know if it would of come off then the result would of been different, i check those areas often, now i check everytime i go,then at the beach i do a walk around. one motor shutting off isnt nearly as bad and i dont think you will wipe out at 90 on a 25 warlock they are a great handling boat if you were going 120 maybe.

That's strange, on my maiden voyage in my 24 Skater I had a fuel pump quit. Port engine died at 85 mph and I don't think I would have noticed if I hadn't been watching the tach drop. It just kept on going, barely felt anything....

Is that Time Warp's old boat? If it is, that was a long trip to get that.;) Chuck

Is that the old Timewarp? If so, that is a boat that has had great care and attention.

I'll be around for sure! We have a camp at the other end of the lake.

This is Caleb's Timewarp. Great guy! I love the boat. I had it shipped and it was well worth it. I'll be taking good care of it too. I can't wait for a warm day and no ice!

Hey guys, The 2.5 motors have a ratcheting lower unit on them. (when a motor quits, the lower slips) the 3 litre motors (to my knowledge) do not slip, so along with no thrust on one side, you will also feel added drag on the failed side. Could get exciting over 100.

Try it out!! No seriously, try it at 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, etc. Give you a feel for what it would be like?

Don't worry about it Bob, broke a vertical shaft just below water pump, wouldn't have known anything happened if the revlimiter didn't kill the motor on that side, pulled back on the throttles and then comes the bad part, you can't get back on a plane on one motor so it's a long run back to the trailer at displacement speeds, good thing there's lots of room under the hatch for a cooler of "breakdown beer":D :D
Glad you still like the boat.

Later,
Caleb

P.S. Lost lowers on one side more than once at 85-90MPH never had the boat do anything "funny" that was with stock gearcases(I think Mercury bought me 6 or 7 gearcases during the 5 year extended warrantee) once the Sportmasters went on, no more gearcase problems.

Great to hear this Caleb. Hey I watched the tape at least 5 times. They got some great shots of you.

The reason I started this thread was this happened to a friend of mine. I figured it would be different with different hulls. He was running a 24' Liberator tunnel w/twin 300x's. When he was wide open one engine cut out. It sent him sideaways and into the opposite side of the boat. I'm sure he was really moving that setup.

So far I've seen 95 on this boat. It was a nice clear day with a little chop. I kind of ran out of fast running room to jack it and trim it a little higher. I haven't been really pushing it too much yet. Most of the time I have my wife or daughter with me. They don't like to go fast. This spring I'll push it. I think I had 1 or 2 mph left to get. Remember I went from a boat that did in the 70's to this. I'm glad I'm not too used to it yet. I still get that wow feeling.I hope that stays. Otherwise I'm spending again! The fastest boat I had before this was a 380 Ray Laser with a 2.6XP Evinrude on it. That had a regular speedo so who knows how fast? It would pin the OMC 85 in the right conditions.

skydog, hope to see you then, we used to go on the manitowish chain when we had a 20' switzer with a 200 merc 5 years ago, i would like to do it again but kinda freaked about hitting something with this boat two lowers are costly vs one, we did the three lakes tour, was idleing around an island and crashed onto a fish crib,no markings ,scratched the bottom up and the lowers stopped againsd the edge of the crib so no damage there ,whew!! what could of happened. lake tomahawk is great for fast passes and riding around, minocqua is turning into pontoon city we get alot of thums down there, dont let that stop you, lk gogibic in mich is a blast 17 miles one way i have a 23 daytona with 245 carb motors bone stock except for ported intakes,28 lab cleavers at 8000 rpm close to 108 mph, so you will have to give me a head start if you can go 120 you will be the fastest up here so far zastrows 30 motion with trip 280's went almost 120, warlock dave has it now. jay

I still had that WOW feeling the last time I took that boat out. My wife just wanted a drier ride or I'd still have it:) :)

Nice boat BigJohnson. Caleb gave me a ride in it at the NW Screamandfly rally on the Columbia River in Washington so I could get my stuff off the beach after blowing the lower on my Skater. That Warlock is an awesome boat. It was a real treat to ride in it I just remember how nice everything was in the boat. The hull was beautifully waxed, the interior looked new and it ran effortlessly at 95 mph for miles with the 2.5 promax's with three people in the boat. My Cougar has a hard time running that fast with just me in the boat with the 245 carb motors.
