Took a few pics.. neat stuff, seems like no where near as many vintage large outboards.. but the boat with the GT115 on it was neat.. of course my camera crapped out then.. maybe someone else has some pics.

Butch, who brought those McCalls and did the either of them get run? Just my luck the first time in 4 years I didn't go to Mt. Dora and those boats show up.

I think Frank Erion brought the McCalls. He's from Ill. but has a place down in Fla. somewhere. Frank used to run SST 100 and SST 60.

The little McCall on top of the trailer looks like Paul Angel's SE kilo boat and the other one looks like the boat on one of John's Xmass cards.

The SJ boat on John's 1974 Christmas card was mine, looked just like that one but it was pretty much destroyed in St.Louis in 1975. What is left of it is in Alexander City, AL involved in a difficult restoration project. Always loved John's Christmas cards, tho one got me in a little trouble:)

He had a sign that said $13,500.00..The rigging and machine work were excellent..Looked like a labor of love..Don't think brass balls would be enough to drive it..maybe titanium..

The entire lower unit and custom mounting bracket look really cool. Any more pictures or description? Very nicely done, a real work of art.

No, that's all I took..The owner did the housing himself..a beautiful job..he said he wants to do the next one with the exhaust like a 75H..hasn't quite figured it out yet..

That particular housing is a Quincy from Bob Shapton. The Speedmaster was done over by Steckbauer and the prop was made right by Dewald, it is running steady a little over 80; 85 might be possible with more dialing in. The internal motor work and pipe work were done by S&F's own DaveS.

As I understand it, his next project IS a Mark75H ;)

I think we are confusing 2 boats here..both are beautiful rigs and were next to each other..

Thanks Jim. Do you know the history on the little boat on top of the trailer? It looks a lot like a boat John built for Paul Angel. The one I'm thinking of was the SE kilo record holder when John was starting to build my v-bottom and I asked him to copy it only with his v-bottom design instead.

I am pretty sure the top boat had Bobby Drewery's name on it if you looked at the deck closely - so that would probably been Paul Angel's boat. Talked to Bob Walwork a bit - John McCall got his start working for Bob. I asked about Paul Angel - Bob says he's living in New York state. I can remember Bobby Drewery driving for Paul when I was stationed in Maryland in the Army back in the late 60's.

I think the two coolest boats there weren't even outboards.

One was a 1907 racer that did all of 22 mph. It was put in a barn in 1912 and sat there until 1986! What a find and a beautiful boat. It was in an all original finish. BTW won every heat it was in!

The other boat had an OX-5 WWI aircraft engine. Another unrestored boat, named Deep Pockets, this one I believe was from the 1920's.

If anyone has and clear pictures, please post them.

What I find so interesting is the history AFTER their racing days. Really neat, or maybe I'm just getting old.

In 1970 Nationals were held down here in Miami. My wife and I were dog and house sitting for my folks that week so we we put up Paul Angel and Bobby Drewery in our apartment. As luck would have it I think Bobby and I each won our classes that year. The next time we met was at Nationals in 73 in Euafala, AL. This time we were both in SE class. Bobby and I split heats in the finals with Bobby winning by a few ticks on time. Those two made quite a team, Paul could make the boats run and Bobby did the rest.

Brings back lots of memories. We were set to move to the final heat in FG in Miami when I touched the retaining wall as I drifted in,can't do that,I was disqualified,my own fault. At the 1973 Eufaula Nationals,my Checkmate was about 5th or 6th at the start of the FG race that was used as a Merc promo photo since all FG boats were Merc powered. I cherished that photo,it was on the wall of my favorite bar that burned a few years ago. If anyone has a copy,I would like to buy it

It was a great show, with new memories. Speaking of boats running, any other boats sink there, besides the big, new, glass saloned rig, at the ramp?

i took my new digital camera and took many pics, will post them soon...bruster, my 13 ft with custom mid and swivel brackets on 1500xs runs fine with single steering, maybe dual if i were racing ,but going in staight line on calm water, no problem. my next custom mid is in the works, t-2x , i dont have original mid with it, so im going to make one,i have powerhead and t-2x lower unit.
