3/8 jackplate strong enough?

I have a 21FT warhawk tunnel, with a 12" manual jackplate,with a 225 promax on it,the jackplate is 3/8" thick, I am putting a 300 promax on it. Will this jackplate be strong enough, or should i go to a 1/2" jackplate? Like a Rapidjack magnum 10"-12" ? Is the 3/8 plate weak from side to side? if so can i build some side supports from the jackplate to the transom, aprox 12"-15" out from the jackplate, to help with side to side movement? Is 1/2" plate that much stronger than 3/8 plate?
