View Full Version : Faria or Teleflex??
Looking at new gauges and am wondering what the diff is in these two brands. I know that Livorsi or Gaffrigs are more desireable but way more expensive.
TIA

they are about equal on the level of crappyness so get whatever you get a better price on.
In looks or in performance?

faria is not crappy..... they make some quality things. I mean if you going for looks go with livorsi or autometer. Faria prolly isnt the best choice.

I think he means peformance. I'm not a huge fan of either of those brands, but the Faria does look pretty good even for a cheap guage.

my lightning action came from factory with faria guages and they always worked just fine. even the lights in the guages always worked. not top of the line stuff but they do work and look good and you can get colored trim rings to match your boat. and they dont cost a arm and both legs.

I don't have a lot of experience with Teleflex, but my boat has had Faria gauges since new. They are cheap and inaccurate instruments. BUT the speedometers are consistent, albeit "happy". Generally 9 - 10% happy across the board. At 40 mph, you're doing 36. At 54 mph, you're doing 49 and change. At 78, you're doing 70-71. I have seen this both on the 100 mph gauge that came with the boat and on the 55 mph gauge that I got when I had the V-4 on the boat. I recall Balzy reporting a similar margin of error right up to 100 mph on his also. They are not accurate, but seem to be consistent from gauge to gauge.
I think you're doing the right thing by sticking with the cheap gauges. It's not worth the money for the expensive stuff when you can spend it in places that actually matter. A really good tach is the only gauge I'd consider spending big bucks on if I were really tweaking a critical setup.

I've used the Faria Dress White guages. Never had a problem. Looked great, worked great, great price, and never broke.
Thanks for your replys guys. I don't run a speedo but a gps so thats not a problem. I run a dual pyro so I have a handle on my temps with n20 and have a pro- comp 11K recall tach for pretty good indications of my rpms. I just want the smaller gauges to look decent and match somewhat without spending an arm and (two) legs! When I can get a gauge from Faria for 19.95 and the same gauge in gaff costs 65 I don't see the sense in it. I could save the diff for the 7 dollar a gallon gas that I run.
Thanks again

A lot of guages are repackaged with a different face and bezel but the gauges themselves are the same. Nordskog stuff is the best I've seen...owned...but the Teleflex gauges I own have never failed either.
You said fuel flow gauge though....the only company I know that makes those is Flo-scan and they are over $250.

When your talking about a fuel manager guage though does it really matter if its a Faria or a Northstar? It just an instrument hooked up to the fuel line, how inaccurate can it be? If it does matter, then would you go with a Northstar, Faria, or lowrance?

Fly, I don't remeber saying fuel flow but if I did what I really meant was fuel pressure gauge. Faria doesn't have one listed but they do have an oil pressure gauge. Am I correct in assumeing that it will work with gas?
Lil Jon, I have an 11K tach and need most of it depending on which hull I am running. I don't know about this Riot because I have never ran it but I think I 'll need it with the power that I have. Thanks tho.

If teleflex & faria are your only choices go w/ teleflex.
FARIA - SUCK
MEDALLION - SUCK
BEEDE - SUCK
That's from my experience with them. I'd take teleflex over all of those.
BUT IF YOU DON'T WANNA GO WITH GAFFRIG OR LIVORSI BRAND NAME THEN CHECK OUT AUTOMETER CAUSE THEY MAKE 90% OF GAFFRIG & LIVORSI & THEN THEY BRAND THEM.
We used them for many years with less problems than any other gauges including GAFFIC's and Norskog,If we wheren't using smart craft I would still be using them ! LIGHTNING POWER BOATS

BD gauges are nicer and a step up from Faria or Teleflex for a fair price.
