Two totally different motors for 2 different applications.
What kind of boat are you looking to put either on?

Buddy of mine has a 250xs opti on his newer hydrostream voyager. He feels the motor is to heavy for that boat and wants to try something lighter and still keep it somewhat of a "family" boat. He has tried many props and it still porposes like a motherf#@ker. His wife now hates the boat and wants to get rid of it. He thought a lighter motor might help. Any suggestions? I don't remember what the setback is but its where the factory recommended it.

I think the Voyager should be able to handle the weight if set up right. I'd try reducing the setback.
A quick fix might be to add a tail to the lower unit.

He did put a tail on it, helped a little but not enough. Reducing the setback was my next suggestion to him and I think thats his next step when spring rolls around.

Maybe put on a big cavitation plate from bobs machine would help? I guess the problem is in slower planing speeds?

I'm quite familiar with that problem since I'm running 250XS on a XB2003 Allison. I completely cured the problem on my boat by
1. reducing the weight by taking off the hydraulic plate and going to a manual plate
2. Coming in on the setback a lot. I came in from 12.5" to 3.5".
This may be what your friend needs to do. I changed the setback 6 times before finding the sweet spot.
