I'm replacing a 96 175 evinrude with a 2000 merc 200 efi. The 175 turned a 17 sst 5400 rpm, 42 mph on a 20 ft whaler. Should I stick with a 17 pitch for the new motor? Thanks Marty D

NEED MORE INFO which whaler and what setup... most OUTLAWS or montauks turn 21's with 200's. but there are several dealers that dont properly prop them and then only turn the 17P props...

This is a dual console Dauntless 20, 22 degree v, double liner, lots of stainless rails and a big windshield. I bought the rig used, and don't know if the rude was tired. The anti vent plate was even with the bottom. It scored 2 cylinders after 1 season. This will be my first v6 merc, and I heard they like to rev high. MartyD

When I upgraded my motor, the prop also had to be upgraded. You can always try the prop you have and control the throttle to ensure you don't hit the limiter. If you have more throttle left, you simply go to a bigger prop. My upgrade consisted of almost 100hp (if the 10% over rule is accurate) and I went up from a 16p PT PTC to a 21p Tempest/Revolution 4. Gained approximately 18mph.

just keep the efi under 6000 [touch 6200 briefly] you'll be fine. youll need the 19 is my guess.
